My Illustration is from The Gulf Road In Chesterfield NH which follows Gulf Brook through a narrow gorge. The Brook and feeding waterfalls are quite spectacular when the flow is strong.

Back road in Marlborough New Hampshire. I rarely do heavy tonemapping, but I seem to be stuck on autumn roads and this was a much needed escape. Still I blended the tonemapped image with the straight version. Foregive me.

When it comes time to identify the iconic leaf of New England's fall season, it is almost always the red and gold of our Maples. Who can argue, Maple trees in full display are spectacular, but they are also short lived and fragile. As someone who is in it for the entire season, I would like to honor the tree which, although not the most spectacular, does more to extend the beauty of autumn, the under-appreciated American Beech.

Sandy has largely wiped clean our autumn canvas and we are suddenly immersed in "stick season". A major consolation is to wander through those unedied October images. Here the morning mist softens the bright color on a hillside in Marlborough, New Hampshire.
