These cranes on the Bristol dockside are much photographed and this particular photograph is nothing special. But it does have a 29 in it and therefore keeps up the sequence of photographs featuring every number from 1 through to 366.

This remarkably obliging frog allowed me to get my little Lumix to within about a centimetre of its snout. It even posed with some duckweed draped elegantly over its forehead. What a kind and generous creature. For those who want to know, it is a Common Frog (Rana temporaria).

Dear Administrator for Face Down Tuesday. I know that this photograph does not include any of my body, nor indeed any part of anyone else's body. It is entirely bodyless. It is without body. Unbodied. However, this lego man is a metaphor. He represents me today. Floating face down in a sink, inches away from a drain. That sums it up entirely. I hope that everyone else had a happy FDT and I am relying on the fact that you guys will cheer me up with your photographs. Thank you for listening. It has been therapeutic. Zenas M.

Not a lot to say about this one, other than that it is a photograph that contains the number 21. Numbers are everywhere once you start looking. And, once you start looking, it is like a fire that you cannot extinguish.

I wonder what pigeons think in this situation. If it were a human, it might be thinking "I wish I could fly". But that would be fairly pointless for a pigeon. Perhaps it is thinking "You know what, I would really fancy a go in a dinghy". Or "I don't really want to be a pigeon; I was born to be a duck." Or perhaps it is simply contemplating its own little pigeon life and is expressing its gratitude that it was born in Bristol.

I think he may have a body under that tarpaulin. It would have to be a small body, perhaps coiled up, but nonetheless you could do it.

Last week, the newly hatched tadpoles were clustering together for safety. Now, they are doing the exact opposite. They are spread evenly across the pond, each one carving out its own life. Having said that, there are still hundreds of them and watching them is quite mesmeric. They wriggle hither and thither like the biological version of Brownian motion. When you do get a chance to look at them though, you are struck by their incredible colouring. They are not the 'little brown things' that you expect; on the contrary, they have this incredible speckling and are quite beautiful. The specks are reflective and some of the tadpoles sparkle, as though have been rolled in iron filings. This photograph doesn't quite capture the beauty of these little beasts, but it was the only one I was able to get in focus. If you click on it and put in big on black, you'll get a better view of its colouration and you'll be able to see its little eyes.

In a couple of weeks time, my wife and I will be celebrating our 20th anniversary. So we decided to potter off for a couple of days to Oxford. My wife had never been there and I hadn't been for many years. The weather was remarkably kind to us and both days were perfect Spring days. Today we walked around the botanical gardens. Most of the plants are yet to appear, but all around is the scent of new growth. It was a wonderfully peaceful place to be. This photograph is of a fountain that is in the centre of the garden. I have used the same approach as in my 82/365 photograph, only this time it was deliberate. Once again, I like the off-focus effect whilst accepting that I might be in the minority.

Pond skater, great pond snail and tadpoles

Not entirely sure how this photograph happened. The pond skater (Gerris lacustris) is, of course, on the surface of the water. However, the great pond snail (Lymnea stagnalis) and the tadpoles in the background are all beneath the water. Bit strange. Anyway, the pond skaters have reappeared in the last couple of weeks and there were 4 of them on the pond today. Doubtless they will be waiting to pick off the weaker tadpoles and suck the life juices from them. As can be seen, the tadpoles are still at that frenetic stage where they cluster together. It will be interesting to see how many still remain in a week or so's time.

The frogspawn in my pond is at various stages of development. As can be seen, this spawn has not yet started developing. Indeed, I suspect that it may infertile because it has already been there for a couple of weeks. All around the spawn is developing, but these have remained resolutely dots. The next few photographs show the more developed spawn.

This little tadpole is two weeks old and is maybe 3mm long. It is curled inside the security of its egg. It started out as a dot (see www.flickr.com/photos/26953621@N03/5484768859/in/photostr... ) and then started developing its basic shape (see www.flickr.com/photos/26953621@N03/5505631126/in/photostr... ). But now its gills have started growing - a wonderfully delicate filigree - and it is preparing itself for life beyond the egg. It will remain here for a while yet, but it has taken another step on its incredible metamorphosis. It is not the greatest of photographs, but the tadpole is under water in my pond, rather than in studio conditions.
