This was the first time I had been down to this spot and thankfully was treated to a nice sunrise. My pano-head got a bit of a workout through the morning, this being one of the earlier shots.

This photo reminded me one of those shots people often take looking out of a plane and seeing the wing. I used my 10 stop filter to get the water nice and smooth.

I made the trek out to Nudgee Beach in hopes of a good sunrise, thankfully the sun and clouds aligned! I probably wasn't in the best position, but i managed to get one shot i was happy with.

The morning show was over and the sun had come up but I put on my ND1000 filter and took a couple of different exposure times just to see what they looked like. Then once home I feed them into Photmatix( not thinking it would end up as a HDR image) and this was the result. not something I think I was trying to capture but the light and the colors struck a chord with me, has a sort retro feel I can't put my finger on...

One of the great things I really love about photographing the mornings is the unpredictability of it, seldom will you know what your going to see. Some mornings are blow outs and your better off staying in bed, and then we have mornings like yesterday...

The sun is getting up earlier and earlier now, and I was almost to late for the very first "glow" of the morning, thankfully the whole hour before sunrise provided more than enough for me to work with! Sandgate turned out to be a bit of a last minute decision(I need a big break from Nudgee beach) and I found a great spot I haven't seen before. Apart from a lone pelican it was just me and the morning.

( The pelican is there, he's small and on the horizon in the middle)

..A windy cloudy morning, ankle deep in sand and icy water, armed with only my tripod, camera, backpack and some fool notion that the heavens would open up and present me something interesting to capture...

To often I try to take a few pictures of everything half interesting as opposed to concentrating on nailing a shot, maybe I am impatient or my attention span wavers when its early and I have had no breakfast. As the sun finally did decide to make an appearance I found myself madly jogging trying to position myself to get an interesting tree in the foreground.

I can only think of some middle aged couple sitting on their front porch drinking their morning tea watching the sun come up commenting on some guy running through the mangroves...

Another early morning, this time I had the pleasure of spending it on North Stradbroke Island. Was a glorious morning and despite the time of the year the weather was beautiful, although I wasn't tempted to go for a swim.

The beaches near point lookout have some great variety but a weekend isn't long enough to explore them all.

This is an occasion where I happened to be at the right place at the right time. I was passing by Nudgee Beach on Sunday, there was a storm brewing in the south and the clouds were churning. I saw the storm and this boat and snapped a few quick photos, This is a 9 bracketed HDR shot, enjoy.

Sunrise is such a fleeting time of the day, the passage of the sun from below to above the horizon happens in a matter of moments. Trying to capture this can often leave little room for error, or mostly in my case a mad rush of multiple shoots in hope of getting something I will ultimately be happy with.

This morning was no different, I at least knew where, when the sun would be rising, and was ready. It didn't stop me taking more pictures than I should need! This is from one of my several HDR attempts during the course of a rushed 5-10 minutes, unlike all my others this one doesn't have as much of the typical HDR look that many people find offensive, enjoy.

I haven't been out to Nudgee Beach for a long time, having spent a bit to much time out there I felt there was nothing more I could do there and left it off my list of places to shoot. I felt it was time for my self imposed exile to end and give it a go again...

I forgot how convenient it is, 30 minutes from front door to beach, and with the sun rising so early this time of the year it makes a big difference. Turned out the morning wasn't the best, there was no real pre dawn glow, no explosion of color from the clouds, but the sun did rise right behind this tree.

"Flame Trees" is a song by Australian pub rock band Cold Chisel from their 1984 album Twentieth Century. It is one of their best known songs, and was written by drummer Steve Prestwich and organist Don Walker.

I fell like I have been in hibernation over the last 2 months! Winter in Australia is really nothing to complain about, but the cold morning of late have got the better of me, that or i have just been lazy and wanted to sleep in...A 3.15am wake up and in the car on the way to something worth taking photos of. Despite a lot of clouds and some early rain and my feet white cold and numb i got some ok shots i think.

The Quiet Earth

I decided to jump in this shot for no real reason, I thought that a silhouette might make some nice contrast against the colors and light of the pre dawn glow. Standing out there it felt like I was a million miles away, the only sounds were the wind and the water lapping against the sand.

It made me think back to a movie I really enjoyed, "The Quiet Earth". Both the sense of being alone and the beautiful morning reminded me of the final scene.
