Sometimes, luck is on our side a little bit. I happened upon this Heron standing on the ice of a local pond while I was out enjoying the wintery conditions.

Little did any of us (here in the UK) realise there would still be freezing temperatures and snow on the ground at the beginning of April.

Finally getting the hang of these long exposures. One of many such shots taken at my favorite beach location in Scotland. I had to work quickly and keep moving up the beach as the tide was coming in at a fair old speed. All adds to the fun though!

We have all heard the saying "Can't see the wood for the trees", and walking around this beautiful little forest on the hills overlooking Bassenthwaite, it is easy to claim that you can't see the view for the trees. Maybe though, the trees are the view.

In the basement of a lovely crumbly old house, I found this corner of wall with many many layers of paint, which I can only guess represents redecoration over a long period of time.

I need to find more of this stuff !

4 Feb 2012 - DPS Silver medal winner - Wilmington International Exhibition of Photography

Arriving in the dark, guided by our head torches, we are the first here and get the choicest spot. In a few short minutes a small crowd has gathered and sets up around us.

The light begins to fade in and there is a sea of tripod legs, intertwined for the lack of space to fit everyone in. It's a cosy experience, but us photographers are a friendly bunch, so jokes and stories are exchanged while we wait for the light show to begin.

And then it happens. The magic of dawn through this arch is as magnificent as I have ever seen. The primeval landscape is shown at it's best and 30 or so photographers frantically try to capture that magic for posterity. We fade away in two's and three's, reluctant to leave the place which thrilled us so much.

To Harald and CMvW, it was my great pleasure to meet you both and to share this morning with you.

Delicate Arch Sunset

Sunset at Delicate Arch in the Arches National Park, Utah. Two or three hundred photographers were gathered here waiting for this shot, chatting, teaching, and just being nice to each other. Then the show began. People moved out of the shot and went silent. Cameras clicked. The light went and we all packed up and made our 2 mile journey back to cars in semi darkness. What a great evening!

A lone tree on the moor surrounded by heather. The simplicity of the colors and the composition attracted me and was isolated using a long lens.

Cold War Hangar

RAF Cosford museum, well worth a visit if you've never been there.

This is the cold war hangar, a modern design building which looks just the same from the other side. From above, it looks like someone put a twist in it.

Inside is all manner of aircraft from the cold war, most notably for me, the V bombers are there. Also there are mini movie set type displays from the time.

Another old typewriter. This pre-dates even me, and is a marvellous piece of machinery. As I sit here typing away on my itty bitty wireless keyboard, I feel somewhat disconnected from the process which is taking place. With these old machines, we were very much a part of the process and it felt right somehow.

I learned to type on a machine similar to this, where you had to really thump the keys to make the head hit the paper. Of course, this did not work well when I got my first computer with a keyboard which needed more delicate treatment.

There was a certain satisfaction in the noise these old machines made, but other than that, I'm glad we moved on.

A tranquil scene on a small Loch up a long single track road. I prefer poor weather conditions for a shot like this but I was on a reccy for new locations, and absolutely loved the nice weather.

Same field as the previous shot, just a wider more traditional view. So lucky to find the two crops in such fine condition at the same time. Evening light certainly made this shot glow.

A field near my new home full of these wonderful Poppies. I saw them the other day on the way to a friends party. Happily I managed to get back to them and after a fair wait for the light to play ball, this is the result. Lee GND's used to tone down the sky, a lot.
