This is Sabine - a professional model from Germany. Got an email to see if we could arrange a shoot while she visited Australia back in March.

Weather was too windy for flash and even the reflector was difficult to use. Sabine's boyfriend got roped into holding it and almost got dragged down the beach.

Hadn't been to Bribie Island before this - but I'll definetley be going back.

Was a really fun morning - very glad we all made it happen.

Had a little heat wave along the east coast of Australia late in August which meant this shoot wasn't nearly as quiet or cool as I was expecting. Stephanie needed some new swimwear shots for her port and all in all it made for a nice Sat down at the beach (sunburn aside...) The minor downside was a really unusual low cloud/haze for most of the morning meant incredibly dull skies - but conversely lovely soft light. Can't complain as eventually they opened up and the sun blasted through - bring on summer :)

Strobist info:
Sun camera left, high, through hazy cloud.
600WS monoblock through 60x90 softbox quite low, camera right towards models face. Tronix XT battery for flash. Skyport trigger.

Just a quick note - there's been some random comments below which I've had to delete. Just to clarify - I'm the photographer that took the photo - not the model. Stop telling me how sexy I am and that you want to hook up LOL!

This was a fun but challenging shoot. Early on I was really struggling to balance ambient in the forest (much lower than I expected) with flash, had to drag shutter speeds and kick up ISO until I found a happy medium.

By this stage I had it pretty much down - the advantage with this particular location is the even shade across the scene - so no dappled light to contend with or blown highlights in the background.

Just used the flash to add a little touch of pop for this one - rather than trying to light Sherie with it if that makes sense. Under exposed the background by less than a stop from memory - maybe 2/3rds.

430EX through Westcott foldable umbrella - held by Gemma camera left - low power.

This shot was a simple one light, 430ex, through umbrella, held by Charm angled down on to Sarah from camera right. Skyport trigger. 1/1 power I suspect.

Weather was awesome...water though...cooold. So unfortunately we didn't play here for long.

Shot this set with the nifty 50mm f1.8 - found I need to move my feet more and I fumbled composition more than once by being too close. Good lesson - too used to relying on zoom.

Time stamp is accurate - shot at about 12:30pm - horrendous time to be shooting this stuff on a beach but with a bit of work and creative angles we did ok.

This one was lit by my 600ws studio light off the TronixXT battery - 60x90 softbox image right. Skypoert trigger. Shot 11:34am and working against the sun (behind model..well mostly above really at this stage.).
