Intensity

I think I have cured myself of sunset shots when on holiday :-) , but we did get a number of intense ones and it seemed a shame to let this go by. This night being the most intense, to a point where I de-saturaed the pic to try and keep some naturalness.

It was taken on the same night as "Ethereal" posted several shots ago- just looking the other way

The "backyard"

Many of us refer to the Waitemata Harbour / Hauraki Gulf as Auckland's "backyard" - certainly true if have any sort or water craft - the sea is so accessible here. - now I just need to win the lottery and get a boat :-)

This is one of the older Americas cup yachts you can pay to have a sail on. The people on board clearly had a ball and I was lucky enough to have a crack at shooting this (well trying) from a chase boat - new experience for me . The sky behaved itself too which was handy :-)

The bow of this yacht was over the stern of the boat we were in a few times which made it pretty exciting (see shot 2)

Lesson's learn't - have two cameras (with wide angle and std zoom on) as very difficult to change lenses, polariser was essential and I need one that copes with ultra wide lens a bit better - mine is too dark also knocking 2 stops off, keeping a straight horizon was fun and most of these are cropped slightly due to some angles, I need to be more creative but just hanging on and getting some shots was enough to keep me occupied first time out:-), I used shutter priority set between 1/500 and 1/640 on the camera so the images wouldn't be blurred.

Low Tide Reveals The Sky

Had little flickr \ photo time so trying to catch up.
Took this last night, the sunset reds didn't really happen but low tide always reveals enough to get something hopefully. Good to get out and about I have to say.

Quick pic session with Terry after a surf at this spot last night. Wasn't expecting much given it was raining and cloudy on the drive out but a got a quick burst of light on a couple of pic's then its gone! so this is it!
Never know what your going to get out on the West Coast at the moment but that's the fun of it.

Found this place not far from a mates parents house when we visited Wellington (on the Old Coast Road).
This was a test for me- I took two handheld RAW pics, one with some foreground, one with plenty of sky and ened up combining them in an unintentional vertorama but learnt a lot doing so.
Intended it to be mono but the colours of the roof and structure needed to be shown I reckon

well Ive been a bit demotived or maybe I just can't turn my thoughts into a picture at the moment.
This was taken at Wellington a week ago and is another 10 stop ND shot, found it quite intriguing how these stairs were in the middle of nowhere. Great rugged coastline around this city and have to get back for more phototime.
Managed to take in Brian Brake's photo exhibition at Te Papa - amazing photos from this magnum photographer who has now passed on.
Sorry been a bit slow at keeping up also but hopefully after next weekend I'll be back into it.

Well the 4th of October was my birthday and another year of my life has disappered into the void of time so I stepped back into the archives and found a pic one of my favorite surf spots doing its stuff. I also stepped back in time and spent the day skateboarding with the kids-man it was fun and managed to keep the skin on my knees for a change-not sure I'll ever grow up :-)
Love how this coast constantly changes and is wild one minute, peaceful the next and how easily it is to connect to it.

Onehunga minimilsm, one of only 5 frames before it went completely nuts with rain and gail force winds, bizarre that a small bolt of lightning happened at this time - but I'll take it - thanks Huey :-)

The Watching Tower

This was one of many shots last night,. I was at a more inland spot doing a reckie a few km's from here and noticed the sky really changing so I went as fast as I could to the beach. Arriving as a sweaty mess I managed some frames before it disappeared. Even the surfers were telling me to get my ass into gear to catch this :-).

Mainly processed the pic in ACR -and tried to keep it pretty much the way I saw it, hence the darker look.
Need the view large L key to brighten it.
dont really like the way flickr has displayed it compared to whats on my screen in CS but thats the way it is sometimes I guess

Treated myself to a night in, some very sad natural disasters going on here and overseas at the moment so thought it best to hide away with a cold ale and take it all in and be thankful that I can do that. Unfortunately my daughter Lauren broke her arm yestaerday at school but I have to say the recent events really put an accident like that into prespective.

Found this old bike on the way home. Fair bit more to explore in this spot I pass most days

Maori Bay Last Light - dug from the archives
Taken looking back to the gannet colony - you can see the blur of a lot of gannets flying around on top of the cliff on the end of the headland. They seemed to go mad at this time of the night-bit like me at feeding time I guess :-). The sand and cliff picked up a bit of warm light just before the sun went to bed (or woke up on the other side of the globe)

This is a "quicke" from a local spot taken about 80 mins ago, decided to do a fast dash to the nearest water which happenend to be in a pond on a farm paddock (was heading to the rocks but this looked better) to catch something of the sky tonight. This is facing the opposite way to the sunset as the cloud form was more interesting. I was a bit late to catch the good light but there you go.

Took this on my way over to a mates last night, regretting not going to the coast (this is the Onehunga Harbour) but hey glad at least I got to see this sunset,. These 5 poles get to see some interesting sky and sea action.
