Marshall-Wells-Hardware Co., Back in the day they put out a monthly magazine, some of them have really neat stories telling what was happening at the time when the wild West was being settled. My interest in these magazines is mostly for the fine art work that is on the covers, These covers were all scanned and saved to hi res jpg’s.....
For your enjoyment....
Drill - Digitally Restored

This is how this drill looked 133 years ago. I digitally restored this drill by cloning in the missing paint. My best guess is that this drill’s original color was blue, and over its long history it faded to the gray - purplish color that it is today. I enhanced the color and reversed the time-fading by adding saturation and with some small changes to the color channels.

I am still researching who made these little hand decorated drills, one possibility would be that the A.H. Shipman co. of 107,109,111 Water street, Rochester, N.Y. was the manufacturer. This information came from a 1879 advertisement .

If anyone out their in cyber land has any more info on these drills I would appreciate it if you would share it with me.

UNION 2-size smooth plane: this plane would be the last type - model that was produced by the Union Manufacturing Company of New Britain, Connecticut.

This plane was made around the time that the Union Mfg. Co. Was purchased by Stanley, about 1920. The plane has some unique markings and differences in features that distinguish it from Stanley planes of that era but the cast iron bed was produced exactly the same as to size and shape as the Stanley equivalent.....EXACT.
