Saturday 2nd August 2008, Stokes Bay Festival. A day to feed the soul! Artists included The Shee, Martyn Joseph, Martin Hayes (pictured) & Dennis Cahill, Show of Hands and the awesome Capercaille.
No pics from later acts - I was too busy jigging ;-)

So, I managed to pick an ideal week for a stay at home vacation. The weather would have graced July, never mind October :-)
On Monday I had a new S-line A4 to test drive for the day. We took it over to Winchester, but in my excitement I forgot to pack my camera, doh! Tuesday we had lunch at Port Solent and today we went for coffee in Gunwharf. And finally a few pictures!

RN Haslar

Though built as a Navy hospital in 1746, RN Haslar in Gosport became a tri-service hospital in the 1990s. Many members of the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps were posted to Haslar.
Prior to Haslar Hospital, medical care for sailors in the Gosport area was very basic and took place in a variety of places. The lucky ones received care at the privately run Fortune Hospital at Lees Lane whilst those less fortunate would be cared for in ale houses or aboard ships that were in anchor at the harbour.

One of my favourite albums is "The Lonesome Touch" by Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill. Martin, from Co. Clare, is one of the finest fiddlers of his generation. Dennis, from Chicago (but of Kerry stock) is a master guitarist. And if anything, their collaboration is greater than the sum of the parts!
