Shot at Lupton Trading Post in Lupton, Arizona on Route 66 near the New Mexico state line.
Most of the buildings here are occupied and function as touristy businesses.

I had real funky weather that day (August 3rd, 2012), but the clouds were way cool.

Three images each two stops apart blended in Photomatix and polished up in Photoshop CS4.

Not all Route 66 destinations are old. This one looks like it's from the '70s or '80s.

I don't know anything about this place, though it looks like it may have been a tourist trap. Across the driveway is a bombed-out Texaco station from the '70s or '80s.

This diner is actually located a couple blocks off the Mother Road and is a little bit difficult to find. If you're dead-set on photographing it, be prepared to spend a little time looking for it (or ask a local, I suppose). I wanted to get a closer shot of the place, but the two pickups in the picture didn't make it possible.

Worst time of the day to photograph this, but I managed to get decent light on the top and passenger side of the vehicle.

I used two approaches on this subject. This one was shot above the car (I stood precariously on a concrete retaining wall), and used my Canon 5D and Canon 40mm f2.8 pancake lens. I took three shots each two stops apart, merged them in Photomatix, and defogged in Photoshop CS4.

The picture next to this one is not an HDR. It was desaturated and a glow was added using two layers in onOne. Not sure which one I like better, but it is interesting to shoot the same subject so differently.

I used two approaches on this subject. This one was shot pretty much level with the car using my Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 point-and-shoot camera. Once RAW-processed, I applied a Summer layer (for a slight glow) and then a Tea Stained layer (to desaturate colors a bit) using onOne plug-in for Photoshop CS4. The border was added using onOne, as well.

The picture next to this one was saturated more and is an HDR (this one is not). Not sure which one I like better, but it is interesting to shoot the same subject so differently.

On some maps, Route 66 is shown going through the Petrified Forest. On others, it's not. Either way, the Petrified Forest would have been (and still is) a fine side trip while traveling the Mother Road. Note: you do need to pay a fee to drive through the Petrified Forest. I unfortunately was not driving through here when the light was optimal.

Finished with a Color Intensify Sky Saturated layer and an Amazing Detail Finder layer using onOne plug-in for Photoshop CS4.
