I was walking up a hill towards a viewpoint over Drumbeg and looked behind me. The low light was casting a lovely red glow over the hills and the shadows falling created by the profile of the hills ahead caught my eye - looked remarkably like a phoenix rising out of the sun. This is straight from the camera - no photoshopping at all.

The sunset was pretty awesome, infact the sunsets were great for my whole week in Assynt.

Taken with the replacement camera after the incident noted in my previous shot.

Just back from a fantastic week up in the North West Highlands.

I had a bit of a disaster on the first night, toppling my tripod over into a sea loch - complete with camera and lens attached :( I stripped off and got into the icy water (which was a lot deeper than I thought!) and fished it out but it was turned on and is goosed. Fortunately it is insured and a friend kindly offered to lend me his camera for the rest of the week - cheers Ewen :) The weather was great and I managed to get a few shots I am really happy with. All of the photographs on the memory card that was in the camera were saved after a dry out too. Really annoyed with myself but could have been worse.

This was taken just as the sun set below the horizon with just enough light to hit the boat and light it up a bit.
The direction of the long shadows all converging onto the kirk caught my eye.

Taken with a ten stop filter for about two and a half minutes. For half of the exposure I waved the back of my phone up and down over the top half of the lens to act as a grad and compensate for the light difference - I think its called black carding.

I've 'shopped in the other handrail on the right to try and balance out the pier - and I'm mucking about with photo-shop.
Stoer Head Lighthouse - Assynt Coast

Michael~Ashley posted a photo:

This is probably one of my favourite shots. Its not the best shot I have taken but it was one of the most enjoyable.

The whole day had been cloudy and overcast, I'd given up any hope of a decent sunset. After dinner I noticed a band of light clearing along the horizon of the West Coast and decided to head out on the off chance things would improve.

Made the short drive out to the lighthouse , set up my camera and waited - hoping the sun would dip below the clouds. Sure enough just at sun set the sun popped out from below the thick cloud and lit the whole place up with a really intense orange light. A pretty amazing experience. I sat there with my tin of coke and cheese n onion crisps just taking it all in :)

I have added a shot of the whole thing in succession with a video from my phone too.

The shot doesn't do the scene justice but I'm happy with it.

Because of the intensity of the light the last shot was about the only useable one I have due to the flare.
