Headed down to the lake as the fog was wicked. Notice the ice fisherman to the left - there were a bunch of them out and about.

Took this one so you could check out the clarity of the Zeiss 21. Also took it with the Biogon 21 and Voigtländer 21 - will post soon. Nevermind - focus was WAY off with those compare shots. Damn.

Last one of the sled dogs. I had the shot all framed and ready to go while lying in the snow. Suddenly, she lunges forward and tries to lick the Zeiss - they are just that tasty!

Though she's out of focus, I love the dynamics of this one.

Took the Zeiss 2.8/21 up for some tests in the White Mountains today and ran into a sled dog team that was out in freezing 9ºF weather. This guy was the alpha - gorgeous dogs (and gorgeous lens!)

A pair on the right (photo to come later) was REAL curious about my camera and wanted to lick the lens!! I was quick enough to keep her tongue off - just barely.

These dogs wanted to do nothing more than pull that sled (there were 4 teams here). Have a TON of shots I took of the dogs, most down at their level. Will be posting a handful more and giving a full review on my blog in the next few days. Gotta say, loving this lens.

Was helping some friends with dodging and burning today and used this older shot for the sample. Played with some other tools on this one (pinch tool to embiggen the eyes) and some new sharpening techniques. I feel the best way to teach someone is to go over the top - then show them how to tone it down.

Yes, this is over-the-top a bit, but that's on purpose.

Decided to push the envelope again with my 52 week project with the Zeiss 50mm. This time, going for a dramatic still life / fine art style shot. This is in natural window light.

About an hour of post work on this one. Man, the original was VERY bright all around.

Picked up a couple more 21mm's today to demo the next month. They are the Carl Zeiss Biogon T* 2.8/21 (Leica ZM-mount) and the Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2.8/21 (Nikon F-mount). I plan to compare / contrast the Biogon with the Voigtländer 4/21 (Leica Mount) on the NEX. And I plan to compare / contrast the Distagon to the Zeiss 35 and 18 to test out that middle range.

Anything specific you want to see, let me know.

PS - to answer an email I just received - no, the D700 isn't that grainy... I added the grain just for effect here. Shot at ISO 200 - so zero grain in the original.

Back to the Nikon now that I've played a bit with the other camera and lens. Still getting the hang of my Zeiss 50mm f/1.4. Took Ashley out down by the lake with the beauty dish and tried to learn balancing the light a little better - so it wasn't as dramatic as I usually do. My idea was to have the strobe compliment the natural light and fill in some of the shadows.

Again, pushing outside the box on my 52 week project with the 50mm Zeiss. I don't want to shoot "everyday" shots with it - want to try it in all kinds of odd situations. This is lit from a very low wattage lamp on a stand. That's it.

First sample out of my new Voigtländer 21mm paired with Sony NEX (taken at f/5.6). Sharpness does not seem to be an issue with this little guy. This is going to be one hell of a fun lens.

Anything you want to see with this lens, let me know.

If you can, view as large as you want to pixel-peep. Didn't do much post as I wanted to display how the images come right out of the camera (more or less). Hence, the crooked trees.

Look in the comments for the SOOC of my barn.

Always wanted to shoot the bridge. Wouldn't you know, the city is renovating it. So there are all kinds of eye-sores like the temporary light poles, piles of constriction material and all the scaffolding on the bridge. But even with that, it's a pretty epic feeling to be standing there at sunset.

Yesterday, I took Ashley for her first trip to the city. She has her new camera I got her for Christmas and she wanted to learn to use it in NYC. Took her to Brooklyn for some proper pizza for lunch, to the Brooklyn Bridge, then uptown to Rockefeller Plaza and Times Square. A bazillion people were there. Absolutely nuts.

First photo of my 52 week project (www.flickr.com/groups/52week/). My goal for this project is to take one photo a week with only the Carl Zeiss 1.4/50, as I really need to use this lens much more than I do. Quite frankly, I suck at this focal length, so I need to work it. Give me 18, 35 or 100 and I am as cozy as can be. But for some reason, 50mm is a weakness. So, this year I plan to hammer out that weakness.

I was racking my brain on what kind of epic shot I should do for my first one as I was sitting in the kitchen with Ashley. The sun was setting perfect outside and I looked at her and said, "You should be my first shot." Our first shot, she gave me that Facebook "duck face" and cracked me up. I told her, let's try a little more serious into the light - she smirked, I shot.
