DSC_6358: Testing out time lapse night time photography with my new 18-300mm lens in our yard last week. There was a low flying propeller airplane circling around in a holding pattern waiting to land at the airport. I managed to capture a good portion of its wing lights as it flew over our house.

DSC_5124: Over the past 24 hours the snow/rain mix and temperatures we had formed these tubes around our clothesline. I spotted them out our window and thought they would make a really cool shot. My wife then told me to knock the snow off so that the clothesline wouldn't break.
While I was outside, I took several pictures with and without flash at different ISO settings. I liked this one the most, since it almost seems like pictures of sea life a the bottom of the ocean growing around shipwrecks.

When my wife saw this picture, she said it looked like a string of marshmallows.

No alterations whatsoever here.

DSC_4193: No software post processing on the PC. All effects done in-camera with manual settings. Nikon D3100 DSLR with 18-55mm DX lens. 30 second exposure.

I'm kind of out of ideas right now for videos, so I thought I'd return to photography for a while.
Autumn is a fabulous time here in the Maritimes with the leaves on the trees changing their colours and dropping to the ground. My wife and I noticed today that some of the recreation parks around the city had great Fall foliage showing, so we're thinking about having an outing soon to go look at them. I definitely plan to take more pictures.

This kind of long exposure night shot of a tree illuminated by the street lamp has fascinated me for a few years. If you look at the very beginning of my stream you will find similar photos taken in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2003. I think this one is better though, because I have a DSLR now, and this picture sports rain drops on my lens that refracted the light and made patterns.

Today I started thinking about joining a photography club. There is a club here in the city that is supposed to be pretty good, so I think I'll check it out.

Behind the wheel HDR.

I've always wanted to play around with HDR, but never had the patience to learn how to do it with my DSLR - and I probably should, since the results will very likely be very good.
A friend of mine mentioned to me several months ago that the iPhone 4S has HDR built in, but I was not entirely satisfied by it when I played around with it.
I was going through the iPhone camera apps in the App Store tonight and noticed Pro HDR.
I bought it and it's pretty cool. This is one of my first attempts at HDR using it and my iPhone, which I think turned out very nicely.
More experimentation with it later.....

A bit of special effects fun, based on a walk down our street a couple of years ago at twilight.
Base footage shot in 720p HD using my Panasonic Lumix FZ28 P&S camera.
This one took a long time to produce. I shot the video at least 2 years ago, after noticing the way the blue sky was lit up in the dark that summer night. This past winter I started to play around with the footage and started down the path of the mirror reflection idea, much like the Saturn Dream Train videos did.
Admittedly, the camera work isn't the best since I was just shooting freehand without a steadicam harness -- something I've been thinking about getting for a while now.

DSC_4374: Done totally in camera, no alterations whatsoever.
I shot this back in late October but just got around to posting it now.
I was playing around with manual exposures in a dimly lit room in our house, trying to catch my silhouette and this was the result.
Title inspired by the new upcoming Star Trek movie coming out in May 2013.

Tonight I went back to the Trinity area of Moncton seeking out the crows that I had seen there a few weeks ago, but this time as they were settling in for the night.
This time, I parked my car in the Futureshop parking lot and walked around to the back of the building.
I had my camera and tripod ready, so all I had to do was to put it on the ground and start shooting.
I wasn't sure how close I could get to them without causing them to be alarmed, so I gradually got closer to them over time but I stayed close to the building so I wouldn't seem threatening.
This was shot with my 55-300mm lens.
If the weather is nice on the weekend, I plan to go back early in the morning, and get them before as the sun comes up.
I tried shooting video this evening, but it was way too dark to get anything.

DSC_1722: For those of you who speak German.
I took a year of German in university in the 1980s, and still remember quite a bit of it.
One of my kids took it in school this year and we had fun studying for an exam one evening after supper. I was reading questions in German and she was responding.
In my study of German, I've always liked this picture's title phrase. Some how, it seemed very fitting.

This is a tribute to a video I once saw at a Portishead concert in the late 1990s in Ottawa.
The visuals used by Portishead in the concert were really cool, and the sound of Snowflake's voice here reminds me a lot of Beth Gibbons'.
