It looks like he might be one molt from maturity. He is currently 6 mm. I found him on the side of my garage, but brought him into the kitchen for a short photo shoot. He doesn't walk well on my counter.... but does a cute little hop jump every now and then to make up for his slow progress.

I think this is the second stage of Fuligo septica. Despite the name it has nothing to do with real dog vomit.

This fly flew up and landed on my camera while I was photographing. Then it stepped right up on my finger so I could get a nice face shot. It was very cooperative and friendly. I transferred it from my finger to this leaf so i could get a more natural looking shot.

For any Washingtonians looking for a nice trail, here is the trail that was mentioned in Sunset Magazine. Warning to anyone going there if you park at Exit 20... be sure to take the trail that starts after the closed gate.... and not the much more inviting one across the street from the parking lot. I suggest you bring your own map as well. See link below for a map of the trail system.
