Sweeping the Falcons

Syracuse Crunch playing the Springfield Falcons in American Hockey League (AHL) Calder Cup Playoff action at the Onondaga County War Memorial on Friday, May 17, 2013. Syracuse won the game 5-2 and the series 4-0.

This is a wide angle view of the Onondaga County War Memorial from the press box walkway as the Crunch (in white) are about to face-off with the Falcons.

With apologies to Larry White, the Crunch swept the Springfield Falcons in the second round of the AHL Calder Cup playoffs (Click link for more photos from the series). They now await their next opponent who will be either the Providence Bruins or the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Space Mountain Anomaly

If there is one thing I learned when watching Star Trek: The Next Generation, is that anything out of the ordinary was called an anomaly. I would classify storm clouds behind Space Mountain at Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom as an anomaly. Not sure the new crew of the Enterprise have used this word yet. Maybe this weekend in the new movie, Into Darkness, they will.

This photo was taken with a Super Zoom lens which is my favorite travel lens to use, especially at Walt Disney World. I know many people feel differently. Click the link to learn about more ways to use this type of lens.

The Niagara Hudson Building in Syracuse is an outstanding example of Art Deco architecture and a symbol of the Age of Electricity. Completed in 1932, the building became the headquarters for the nation’s largest electric utility company and expressed the technology of electricity through its modernistic design, material, and extraordinary program of exterior lighting. The design elements applied by architects Melvin L. King and Bley & Lyman transformed a corporate office tower into a widely admired beacon of light and belief in the future. With its central tower and figurative winged sculpture personifying electric lighting, the powerfully sculpted and decorated building offered a symbol of optimism and progress in the context of the Great Depression. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is my favorite ride in the Magic Kingdom. Its quick drops, tight turns and beautiful and comedic theme have me riding it a few times each visit.

Zoltar, the fortune teller coin operated machine, located on the Atlantic City Boardwalk in Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum. Zoltar is the kind of detail I look for when traveling. You might remember a machine like this from the movie, Big, starring a young Tom Hanks.

Totem Pole Face

One of three native Totem poles in Epcot's World Showcase pavilion for Canada. The totem poles go up to 30' (9 meters) in height. Two are made of fiberglass and one is carved out of wood. The wooden totem pole depicts the story of the "Raven" tricking the "Sky Chief" into the release of sun, moon and stars from a chest. It was carved by Alaskan artist David A. Boxley, and was officially put on display in April 1998 (Source: Wikipedia).
