Statue of Liberty, 1939 Style

I recently bought a bunch of 35mm negatives at a flea market, expecting them to be your standard photographic fare -- people lined up in front of a house smiling at the camera, a blurry car or two, maybe (if you're lucky) an interesting snap of a street scene or interior. But, this lot was gloriously different.

Every vintage 30's photo is a gorgeous delight, and, after looking at the first couple of scanned images, it was quite obvious that the photographer knew what he/she was doing. There are some great portraits, people working in an office, some great shots of NYC, and, even better, a big group of shots of the New York World's Fair (the most spectacular of them all, in my opinion).

One of the beautiful details of Bruce Goff's Pollock House in Oklahoma City. This is a little niche of triangular light in the dining room that I couldn't take my eyes off of.

I don't like to get on my soapbox on Flickr, but this photo really says it all about how I feel partisan politics, fear tactics, and outright lies (thank you, Paul Ryan) are killing everything that is good about the American political system.

I dug out one of my old Canon cameras and decided to play with it. While most of the images turned out a proper b&w, a couple had this blue tint to them -- must have been a setting error or something. But, I kind of like the blue way this looks and especially all of that grain!

Taken in 1998 at the Biltmore in Asheville, NC.

I spent a month at the beginning of 1998 working in Charlotte, NC -- cloistered with my co-workers in a cramped office day after day. The time away from home and Chuck made me realize that I was FINALLY ready for parenthood, so when I returned home, we got to work, and my sweet Jack was born at the end of November that year.

I took this photo of a statue of mother and child at the Biltmore Estate when Chuck came to NC to visit one long weekend. I guess I must have had it in my head then that I wanted to have a sweet boy just like this little guy ... lucky me, I got two!
