Qur'an manuscript 1

Arabic readers can you help me identify this? It is a leaf from a 17th century manuscript of the Qur'an, written on paper, so I am told. I can make out the odd word but neither my Arabic nor my knowledge of the Qur'an is good enough to get me much further.

The story of the first printed edition of Marcus Aurelius's Meditations is complicated. There were two issues both containing the Greek text for the very first time along with a translation into Latin by Xylander. One is dated 1559; the other is undated but the preface is dated 1558, so some people have assumed that the undated issue is the true first and was published in 1558. However it is perfectly possible that a preface written and dated late 1558 (in this case October) might not make it to the press until the following year.

At the same time that these two issues were printed, Xylander's Latin translation was also issued separately and published in Lyon in 1559. This what we have here - Latin translation only but published the same year (or thereabouts) as the editio princeps of the Greek text.

Published in 1810, 'Herculanensia, or Archeological and Philological Dissertations Containing A Manuscript Found Among the Ruins of Herculaneum' was the work of William Drummond and Robert Walpole. It contains a discussion of a newly deciphered papyrus called here 'Peri tôn theôn', followed by an edition of the Greek text. The edition was by the Reverend John Hayter (1756-1818), and his edition, along with a Latin translation, and a commentary are preserved in manuscript at Oxford. Modern editors now think this scroll, PHerc 1428, comes from Philodemus’ 'De Pietate', and it contains a famous critique of Stoic theology, reporting the views of a number of early Stoics along the way. Drummond notes the parallel between Philodemus’ discussion and parts of Cicero’s 'De Natura Deorum', a parallel made famous much later by Hermann Diels who printed the two texts in parallel columns. This edition of 1810 is the editio princeps of this scroll and indeed one of the earliest publications of any of the finds from Herculaneum. A contemporary review (by Thomas Young) said that this publication “must ever be considered as a memorable event in the history of classical literature”.

Miniature Coronation Bible

In 1953 Sangorski and Sutcliffe produced an impressive binding for the Bible used at the Queen's coronation. A total of 25 copies were bound in this design, none meant for sale. At the same time Oxford University Press issued 'The Oxford Miniature Coronation Bible', "reproducing the binding design of the Bible presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey 2 June 1953". This is a copy of the miniature reproduction, bound in full Morocco, 32mo.

20 Greek Penguins in the Jan Tschichold design, published between 1950-61, plus (top left) the original 1945 edition of Homer's Odyssey, the very first Penguin Classic. In all 29 Greek Penguins were published in this design.
