From my Lake O'Hara archives of 2008. This is about 2 days after the collapse of Lehman Bros. No economic chaos going on here though.

The sky didn't cooperate too nicely, but I like the way this view point shows many of the hiking areas available to explore in the Lake O'Hara area.

This is looking North up the North Klondike Valley to the famous North Fork Pass viewpoint along the Dempster Highway. A few yellow pixels of our tent are visible just to the left of the dark shadowy cliff in the foreground. We watched the aurora for two hours from this location later this night.

I've had a print of my North Klondike Valley photo (below) hanging in my living room for the last couple of years. It's has been calling to me to explore the end of that valley. Here's the result!

We had just spent about 8 days in the Tombstone Territorial Park about 250 km south of here doing day hikes in cloudy and rainy weather. We had enough of that and decided to drive about 300km north to Eagle Plains to see if the weather was any better. It was!

The view here extends unobstructed for nearly 180 kms (to left) down the Ogilvie-Peel river system. The fall colors are just coming into their peak form here on September 4th. I like the yellow stripes on the hill across the valley. You might have to look at the large view to see them.

My kids (Aaron and Nicola) enjoying the view of Crater Lake from Garfield Peak. This was one of our stops on a 2 week road trip / summer vacation in the camper through Oregon.

Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the US and second deepest in North America. This depth and the purity of the water give these incredible deep blues which are best experienced on a sunny day such as this.

Below is a link to a 9-image panorama and a 22-image panorama.

Forever Yukon Wilderness

Marc Shandro posted a photo:

Can you imagine driving hundreds and hundreds of kilometers through untouched wilderness like this? Or better yet, walking? The next settlement is 300 kilometers from here at Eagle Plains. Population 8.

If you ever get a chance to travel in such a place, something good will lodge in your being and will never leave you. The opportunites to explore anywhere you like are endless. Do you want to see what is up in those hills? Then start walking! You might want to bring your bear-spray along...

As I look at this photo now on my computer, I am transported back to the wild silence of this place and remember the still freshness and the delight in strolling over the spongey vegetation. When you're in a place like this, there's something deep in your biology that remembers how good it is and this is where we've come from.
