Sasanian empire silver drachma showing on its obverse side Sasanian king Hormizd II (302-309 CE). The king wears a winged crown with an eagle head, his Korymbos (spherical veiled hairdress) is seen. A double ribbon flows behind the head of the monarch. A Pehlevi Inscription and a single grenetis complete the image. On the reverse side, a fire burns on an altar between the king on the left and a crowned soldier on the right, both holding their sword.. Here again, a Pehlevi inscription and a single grenetis achieve the decoration.

Drachma Bahram II

Sasanian empire silver coin of 1 drachma showing on its front side Sasanian king Bahram II, his qeen, and either a prince or God Verethragna. The King wears his typical winged crown, above which one can see his typical spheric hairdress (Korymbos). The queen wears an animal formed crown with either a boar or a griffin. Facing the royal couple, a smaller character wearing an eagle head form crown gives them a ribboned ring of power (Farshiang or Cydaris). A semi erased pehlevi inscription is seen around them: "Worshipping Mazda, the divine Bahram, king of kings of Iran,who is beloved by the gods".

On the reverse side, a fire burns on an altar from which 2 ribbons are flowing down, between 2 characters: on the left, the king with his sword makes the typical sasanian tribute gesture with his hand, a ribonned ring of power above him. On the right side of the altar, a female character is seen, holding a ring, who might be either the queen or more probably goddess Anahita (only a divinity can get a tribute salutation from the king). Above this character, a moon crescent.

The mint is uncertain, coin was made during Bahram II's titulature (276-293 CE)

Sasanian empire silver coin of 1 drachma showing on its obverse side Sasanian king Shapur I (240-272 CE). The king wears his typical crenelated crown with ear flaps. Above the crown, his Korymbos (spherical veiled hairdress) is seen. A double ribbon flows behind the head of the monarch. A Pehlevi Inscription and a single grenetis complete the image. On the reverse side, a fire burns on an altar between 2 crowned soldiers, a hand on their sword, the other holding a lance. Between them, a fire altar dedicated to God Mithra. Here again, a Pehlevi inscription and a single grenetis achieve the decoration.

Drachma Piruz I

Sasanian empire silver coin of 1 drachma showing on its obverse side Sasanian king Piruz I. The king wears a winged crown, of a third type (Piruz's representations evolved along his reing 457-484 CE, wearing 3 different crowns). Above the crown, his Korymbos (spherical veiled hairdress) is seen. A double ribbon lay on each side of the monarch. A Pehlevi Inscription complete and a single grenetis complete the image. On the reverse side, a fire burns on an altar between 2 servants making the sasanian typical tribute gesture. Here again, a Pehlevi inscription and a single grenetis achieve the decoration.
According to the reverse inscription, the coin was made in an unidentifyed mint, alledgedly located in the actual iranian province of Khuzestan.

Drachma Bahram V Gur

A double ribbon lay on each side of the monarch. A Pehlevi Inscription says "Devot to Mazda, the divine bahram, king of the kings of Iran, descendent of gods". On the reverse side, a fire burns on an altar between 2 servants or soldiers with lancets. A double ribbon decorates the altar. Here again, a Pehlevi inscription and a single grenetis achieve the decoration.
The coin was made at Aspadana (Esfahan) during the reign of Bahram between 420 and 439.

Sasanian empire silver coin of 1 drachma showing on its front side Sasanian king Khosrow Ist said "Anushirvan" wearing a double ribboned crown, between 2 stars. king is surrounded by 4 crescents the one above him supporting a star. A Pehlevi inscription can be seen, the king is surrounded by a single grenetis. Erosion related to a long-term use erase the main aprts of the king's face and also parts of the reverse side. On the reverse side, a fire burns on an altar between 2 servants with swords. Here again, a Pehlevi inscription and a single grenetis achieve the decoration.
The coin was made in Forat (Susiana province on the actual iranian Khuzestan province) in 555 CE.

Drachma Kavad I

Sasanian empire silver coin of 1 drachma showing on its front side Sasanian king Kavad Ist (Father of Khosrow Ist "Anushirvan" wearing a double ribboned crown, between 2 stars. Above his crown, one can see his typical spheric hairdress (Korymbos). The king is surrounded by 3 stars aboove crescents and by a single grenetis. A Pehlevi inscription can be seen. On the reverse side, a fire burns on an altar from which 2 ribbons are flowing down, between 2 animal figures standing on 2 pillars. Here again, a Pehlevi inscription and a single grenetis achieve the decoration.

The coin was made in Ardeshir Kwarreh (City of Gur), at the 38th year of Kavad's reign, so probably around 628 CE, near actual Firuzabad city in Fars province.

Drachma, Khosrow II Parviz

Sasanian empire silver coin of 1 drachma showing on its front side Sasanian king Khosrow II (Parviz) wearing a winged crown and surrounded by a double grenetis and stars above crescents, with a Pehlevi inscription; and on its reverse side a fire burning on an altar between two servants hands on their sword, surrounded by a triple grenetis and stars above crescents.

This coin was made in Shiraz in Khosrow II's 38th and last year of reign 628 CE. 10 years after, the sasanian empire collapsed with the muslim conquest of Persia.
