Farmers will know this feeling well! Dark clouds gathering while you are doing something that does not need rain. 55-250 lens on for this. Shot RAW and converted using ACR than a touch of Nik Silver for mono conversion. A bit gritty but hopefully suits the subject matter. Fairly central composition but it is nice to break the rules every once in a while:-)

Nearing sunset and landscape lit up nicely. Too many sheep in the foreground to get them to all look at the camera together! The green of Northern Ireland everywhere in this one. Sigma 17-70 lens on for this.

Distant Mountains

This one needs a focal point and more foreground interest. That aside, the view was good. The cloud descends in the distance onto the top of the Mourne Mountains. Most likely a passing shower of snow. Converted using CS5 from a RAW file. You can see the tip of Drumbanagher Church spire in the hollow. Slurry has been spread on many of the fields in preparation for spring.

...but feels like winter. Cokin P polariser and 2 stop Hitec grad on the 17-70 for this. Handheld at F11. Shadows a bit harsh but cloud formations were good. Shot raw - hard to get wb right even then with stacked filters

Took this shot a few months back. I never really liked the galvanised gate...a wooden one would have been more photogenic. On the plus side the foal posed well and the early morning light was worth getting up for alone....

As has been so often the case this year, farmers have to take the few dry hours they get to harvest their crops. Rain never seems far away. Plenty of textures here....

I wanted to revisit these old sheds in better light. This is an early morning shot with a 3 stop SRB Griturn filter in a slim holder on the Canon 10-22 lens. Taken at 10mm, f10 and 1/60 at ISO 100.

A field of wholecrop being cut just off the Markethill/Newry Road. Ground conditions still a little soft...but at least that gives a nice pattern in the bottom left of the shot.

A view from the Head Road overlooking Annalong. A Cokin P polarizer and 2 stop SRB Griturn grad combined for this. Saturates colours when you do this. You can see the farmer moving his sheep if you look closely. The sun refused to light up the old farm house!

Early start to catch this. A batch of inquisitive beef cattle near Glenanne at sunrise. Hard to control exposure with such a high dynamic range. 2 top Hi tec grad on for this - handheld. 17-70 on the 60D. Still quite hazy with lots of cattle breath misting the colours of the animals a little.

One of the first dry evenings in a month in this part of Northern Ireland. The tramlines in this large wheat field are sitting flooded with water in many places. Taken near Ahorey...beside a small area known ironically as sunset hill!

Simms contractors lifting silage close to midnight near Markethill, Co Armagh. Ongoing poor weather mean that farmers have to grab every dry hour they can get - day or night! 55-250 lens on for this. ISO bumped up to 3200 (thus the increased noise levels) and manual exposure mode. f5.6 to get any sort of shutter speed. Well past the blue hour so no ambient light to play with.

2 stop Hi tec grad on the Sigma 17-70 lens on the 60D for this. Fields getting wet after all this rain. Usually, when you appear over the hedge with a camera, the cattle come to see what's going on. In a few seconds they lose interest so it is usually the 1st shot that gets the "heads up". Taken near Newtownhamilton, Co Armagh.
