Isle of Wight Beach Walkers

It's the annual 'walk the wight' here today, where thousands of people walk from one end of the island to the other, organised by the Earl Mountbatten Hospice to raise money for patient care at the Islands hospice.

Good luck to all taking part, its a glorious sunny start to the day, hope you all make it back before the rain arrives!

I've done the walk myself a few times in the past, and its a tiring but uplifting experience, but I'm not taking part this time, this year i'll be swimming across the solent for local charities, i've shared the details for that on my facebook wall, and will put some links here on flickr closer to the time.

Still got the lurgy and not able to surf, but we went for a beach walk this morning and i took some photos of the waves (will upload later if i can) and it felt great to be out in the sun and breathing the fresh sea air. This one's from a week or so ago, but it fitted the mood of the day

Welcome to Monday in Cloud-spotters paradise, little fluffy clouds everywhere you look!

Single shot 12mm, little blown out at the top left but i think it manages to catch a lot for one single exposure, i shot a few vertoramas straight afterwards which dealt with that problem, but looking back now i prefer this traditional landscape format and composition.

Hey Joe - Isle of Wight Beach Clean

Organised by our local SAS rep, we had another beach clean today at Compton Bay on the Isle of Wight. And as always there was a mountain of crap to clear up and take away, mostly plastic. As much as i make the place look beautiful in my photos, we shouldn't forget that all is not well in paradise (see photo in comments) and its up to all of us to do what we can to make sure some of this beauty is left for the next generation to enjoy too.

(chose this shot of Joe as he was one of the helpers today)

The Isle of Wight dinosaur hunters

Lots more snow shots to come, i've been out again today shooting around like an excited puppy, but on my way home from a snow encounter yesterday i stopped to catch some fantastic low tide reflections at Compton Bay and i've included one of the many people enjoying the lovely sunshine and very low tide to look for fossils and evidence of Dinosaurs

Dinosaurs are set to to be in the news here for the coming months as The Isle of Wight today announced plans to partner with BBC Earth Films and Twentieth Century Fox to bring Walking with Dinosaurs: The 3D Movie to the island this summer.

Wight Lines - Monday Blues

Outside the window might be grey and dull and wet, but my world is full of sunshine this morning after finally having a good nights sleep. Williams been poorly with an ear infection and a cough and we've all had a few rough nights and little sleep, but last night was much better and he seems to be more like his old self this morning.

So I found something appropriately bright and beautiful from the recent archives with this one from the beach last week, taken just a few hours after snowmaggedon.

This is actually just the one frame from a much bigger panorama, but looking at it with fresh eyes i've decided that this single frame says all that I want to say and something is lost in the bigger pano.
