Daffodils in Springtime at St Agnes Church, Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight

It took its time getting here, but spring is well and truly here on the Isle of Wight now!

Two different views of the thatched church at Freshwater Bay to share this morning, the first shot with the 50mm and a shallow DoF and the next with a wide angle.

I know which one i prefer, but its always interesting to hear other opinions.

St Agnes’s was built in 1908 on land donated by Hallam Tennyson, the son of the Victorian Poet Laureate, Alfred Lord Tennyson, using stone from a derelict farmhouse nearby. It's the only thatched church on the island, and one of only 8 in the country

A few more from the bath-time shoot with the borrowed 50mm f1.2

I still haven't brought the lens, i definitely want one, love that shallow Dof and the creative possibilities it gives, but I just can't quite bring myself to blow £1k on it at the moment (not to mention i can't afford it :)

Thanks for your patience with me this week on my lack of flickr time, i've been a little busy with lots of new website work and also shooting a charity fashion event!

So here you go, be really interested to hear what you think, i'm sharing a few here but you can see the whole gallery of 220 images from the night on my website

Shot hand-held, in a dimly lit hall, mostly without flash, and i'm pretty sure the results would not be the same if i hadn't had another loan on the 50mm f1.2 from my very generous mate WightPod (cheers Jeremy)

OK, last batch of these for a while...

Been a long day today, started out with a poorly baby at 2am and a very early vist to the docs, but the suns come out and he seems better now so here's hoping...

I've still lots more to come from the dorset coast, but just fancied a random change of pace this morning and a brief floral interlude.

Playing around with the shallow DoF and lovely colours of the 50mm f1.2 with some Montbretia flowers earlier in the summer.

The Birds and the Bees Bokeh Wednesday

I've been cultivating a patch of poppies outside my house for a few years now (i say cultivate, in reality i mean i just look at them and they do all the growing by themselves, but my watching them does seem to help) and this year we have a bumper crop full of amazing colours and they are driving the bees crazy. So i finally got a bit of free time yesterday morning and sat out there armed with the 50mm and had a play with different exposures, working my way up through the apertures to see if i could shoot something a little different this year.

Really happy with the experiment, so starting this morning at the shallow (dof) end, here's the results….you try catching a bee in flight at f1.2, its the definition of tricky!

Apologies again for my prolonged absence / lack of commenting on flickr this past week, just been so so busy which is great but i hate not having time to see all your new work too! Hopefully I will be able to share some of the new work i've been doing soon (Castles and Weddings), just not enough hours in the day to process it all and of course you have to show the clients and get their approval before sharing on a social network!
