We are in full swing of the wedding/engagement season so you will be seeing a lot of portraits here. This was from two evenings ago with Cristy and Dan, two of the most awesome people I have met. We went around Millennium Park and down by the Museum Campus and I love the beach behind Adler because of the rockiness, makes me think we are on a major coast. Christine & Eric's full engagement session is live on the blog. See the link below. It may look warm and toasty in the shots, but Chicago threw it's cold wind in on a sunny day but these two had no problem enjoying the shoot. It was hard for me to pick a shot to post since there are a ton of favs in this session! Check it out.

This weekend was very cool in the Chicago Area, but yesterday the light was fantastic and I was happy Christine and Eric were ready for their session. We went around the South Pond area of Lincoln Park then out to North Avenue Pier. The shots came out fantastic and I cannot wait to post the full session. See the sneak peek below!

Another take at Fullerton. Used myself as the model. Working on Techniques for some upcoming engagement sessions. This is four shots merged together. A long exposure 3 shot HDR for the background with single exposure at 1/250 sec of myself. Looking forward to doing this with some of my upcoming couples to get some nice night shots.

Last week I had to climb up to the top of our silo building to do some work, so I did it before the sun rose and brought my camera with. The silo's are inclosed, but I climbed up to the roof access point and enjoyed the sunrise from there. A wonderful view of the city, the sky started off rather boring but then some beautiful light came and I was glad to be able to enjoy it. If only I could bring some coffee up there!

Woke up early this morning to catch the sunrise, though it was a cloudless sky the calm lake made for some nice photographs and great reflecting light. Beautiful way to start a Saturday.

I just posted a quick update on my blog, link is below. Taken again from the top of the Onterie Building downtown Chicago. Processed this with Luminosity Masks instead of digital blending or an HDR program. Trying to figure out what I like best. They all are similar, depends on how much control you want.

The Strip

It took me a bit to stitch this since I took it quickly with my gorillapod on the railing so I did not follow my normal 30% overlap to make it easier. But this is obviously Vegas from the corner of the famous Bellagio fountains. You can see the Bellagio, Caesar's Palace, Flamingo, Bally's, and Paris. This was processed again with Luminosity masks versus 32 bit HDR, and I am enjoying this method greatly with the amount of control you have. Just takes some time to get used to. I am hoping to have a full review of the D800 soon, since I have shot a session with it and used it on several other occasions. So stay tuned for that!

At the End of the Day

It's not always blue hour for me. This was one of the first shots I took with the D800, well other than of my wife and dog. This is three vertical frames stitched together. This is actually processed normal in Lightroom then I am messing around with Luminosity masks in Photoshop. I like this process but need to refine it with my current practices (which you can see here!). Anyways, hoping to get out this weekend and get some new shots around the city! Have a great weekend!

These are my type of blue skies, blue hour skies. Last one for a while from my adventure on top of the Onterie Building Downtown. Just got back from a nice little vacation with the wife in Las Vegas. Didn't take a whole lot of photos but a couple I will be posting and several of this scene, the Fountains at Bellagio. We stayed here so one night I ran out and took a few shots before dinner.
