This was taken along the trail not far from Horse Camp in the early morning hours. The weather forecast called for "mostly sunny" conditions but proved wrong -- the sky looked pretty much like this all day -- little or no sun -- and there were occasional snow flurries and light hail...... by this point -- though I hadn't given up -- my climb enthusiasm was showing definite signs of erosion. -:)

The summit is hidden in clouds -- never caught a single glimpse of it all day [Oct. 12, 2007] -- and only rarely a glimpse of the sun -- but for a brief time -- just at daybreak -- looked like the sun was going to burn through and the weather clear. [Which was the weather forecast.] . At this point my enthusiasm -- and adrenalin -- both -- sky-high......but ... as it turned out .... to misquote an old saying: "Red sky in the morning, 'climber' take warning." ...

Shasta Summit -- Avalanche Gulch -- Red Banks" />

Most of the day the summit and summit ridge were cloaked by clouds and fog but every once
in awhile -- briefly -- the curtain would part -- as it did when I took this. This (taken from Bunny Flat) shows the summit -- upper far left -- the mid and upper reaches of Avalanche Gulch -- and above that --- the Red Banks -- and right of the Red Banks -- Thumb Rock. And as Laurie pointed out -- a glimpse of Misery Hill, as well.

This was taken at Bunny Flat. The road continues on (past Bunny Flat) for another 1/2 mile or so and ends at Ski Bowl -- I think it's called. From what I've read -- there was a ski resort there until about 1978 when an avalanche wiped out its lift -- it never reopened.
