My dog is very mild mannered, and spends most of his day sleeping...as bulldogs do. However, at night, he becomes a jackrabbit hunting fiend. This is what I think goes on in his blocky little head as he heads out into the snow.

And...there's a song that goes with this drawing, starting at 6:54.

This song sounds like something from a very old fairytale book, so I tried to get that effect with the colours and density of illustration. All the band members are in here, although three of them aren't portraits so much as impressions of their personalities from interviews.

I did this drawing a couple of years ago, when there wasn't a video for the song. They've gone back into their vaults though, and have created two new videos; the first one (in which Till does his best drama school trite sad clown act) and this one, shot by one director and "finished" by another. I'd like to see the original version by Eugenio Recuenco, but it's held up in legal tussles for the forseeable future.

ETA: and the future is now. Here is the original, much dreamier version of Mein Herz Brennt.

This one's a bit confusing. The date April 11 keeps coming up in my life and I am trying to figure out why. I started this one as a way to answer the question and it went in a completely different direction and became about cute raccoons and flowers. Heck if I know why. I'll try again. April 11, you haven't beaten me yet, you trickster you.

For a self-portrait show at Secluded Alley Works. I painted from a photo of myself at the age of 2, the day before my brother was born, 8 months before we left England.

During World War II nearly 2 million British children were sent away from areas most likely to be bombed, split from their parents and often their siblings. My father was evacuated out of London and sent west to Devon, where he ended up making his home as an adult. I was born in Exeter, and left Britain via London with my mother and brother when I was three, to live in the US and gain a stepfather who adopted us and gave us the name "West".
