Angel Oak Tree Charleston SC

The amazing angel oak tree on Johns Island near Charleston SC. This ancient live oak tree is said to be over 1400 years old and one of the oldest living things in North America. Folklore suggests that the ghosts of slaves have appeared around the tree as angels, though the tree got it's name from the estate of Justis and Martha Angel. I kinda liked the way it looked in the somewhat harsh lighting, as I liked the contrast it added to the highlights and shadows. I had to wait for a cloud to control the amount of light in the scene to get a proper exposure and used a circular polarizer to control the skies adding the rich blue color to the sky in the background. Charleston SC Magnolia Plantation - Southern Hospitality

Spring in Charleston, South Carolina is always an amazing experience, the air thick with the smell of fresh flowers in bloom, the mighty live oaks coming back to life as the resurrection fern returns to lush green. Magnolia Plantation in the South Carolina lowcountry is a special place in the Spring, and I am always thrilled to experience it! Hope you enjoy it, faves and comments are appreciated! ;-)

Folly Beach Charleston SC Sunset - The Calm

An amazing sunset at Folly Beach on our most recent trip to the coastal areas near Charleston, SC. This South Carolina beach scene had all of the elements a landscape photographer could hope for with a great subject, incredible lighting, leading lines in the sky and water to draw you deeper into the scene, and it's all topped off by a richly colored sunset sky. I especially like the way a beam of golden evening light perfectly highlights the fine detail of the tree trunks.

I shot this image on the eve of Hurricane Irene as she approached Charleston, and you can see the leading edge of the storm on the horizon. I returned to this location the next morning as the storm hit and it was anything but the peaceful and serene environment pictured here. Hope you enjoy it, comments welcome! ;-)

Avenue of Oaks on an old plantation near Charleston SC. The grand entry lane to this lowcountry plantation near Charleston SC features an amazing avenue of oaks dripping with spanish moss lining the drive, really showcasing the grandeur of plantation life in the old south. The passing of time has done little to diminish the natural beauty of these massive live oaks at this amazing location. Click the image to view it large! Hope you enjoy it, comments welcome! ;-)
