I shot this amazing scene from the Appalachian Trail at Jane's Bald looking over Roan Mountain. With the mix of great light on the grassy bald in the mid-ground, the rhododendron flowers at peak bloom, rays of light raining down over the mountains, and the nice leading lines throughout the image, I thought this landscape scene was just incredible! The golden morning sun cutting across the mountains with the low laying fog shrouding the valleys below, and a splash of color from the blooming mountain laurel flowers. I'd have liked it even more if there was a little more sun on the rock itself in this shot, but the clouds covered up everything including us a few minutes after this shot was taken...<br /> <br /> Looking Glass Rock is a large Granite dome visible from the Blue Ridge Parkway in Western North Carolina near Brevard, NC. When I see sights like this it makes me really thankful for living in the heart of "the land of the waterfalls" in Western North Carolina. Lighting provided by a Nikon SB-600 Speedlight in a 45' umbrella for a main light (using the sc-28) and an Alienbees B800 as a secondary light.
