Stamps are miniature pieces of art. Their smallness and method of production make them have their own uniqe qualities. Today I uploaded seventeen stamps. This one is from a 2006 DC Comics Superheroes sheet that includes all the famous characters I read when I was growing up in the 50's and 60's.

Born in France, La Fayette was made an honorary United States citizen for his service to the United States during the Revolutionary War. He served as a general of the Revolutionary Army, led numerous battles, was wounded in action, and interceded with the French government on behalf of the United States. He returned to France after the Revolutionary War.

In 1824, President James Monroe invited Lafayette to the United States as the "nation's guest"; during the trip, he visited all twenty-four states. For his contributions to the American Revolution, many cities and monuments throughout the United States bear his name. Today is the Baha'i Holiday of Naw Ruz which celebrates the New Year of the Baha'i Calender.

Some people cringe when I tell them I am a member of the Baha'i Faith. I have been denied jobs because of my belief. I got a mixed reaction from my Catholic family when I became a member back in 1970. I don't regret the negative treatment but I do hope people will come to respect one another despite nationality, race, gender or creed.

This stamp commemorates the Flushing Remonstrance which was issued in 1657 by a group of non-Quakers in response to persecution of Quakers in Long Island. It is the first documented official call for religious freedom in the Colonies and perhaps in the world. Thank goodness America stands for religious freedom. www.nyym.org/flushing/history.html

This is the rose colored issue of the 3 cent George Washington of 1861. This is virtually the same stamp as the issue I posted several days ago but you will notice there is a difference between rose and red. This one is rose. The cancellation "PAID" adds 35 cents to the value of $3.00. I paid a little more for it because it was centered so nicely and the color and clarity were excellent (very fine).

The 3 cent George Washington stamp of 1861 was reissued in 1867. This is a pink version. It clearly has grill marking. This was done to keep the postmark from being rubbed off.
