A Tranquil Nook posted a photo:

For this piece the applique was cut in turquoise wool felt then meshed into the base fabric with barbed needles using the Embellisher machine. The design fabric is fully mixed into the base fabric - it give a trompe l'oeil feel as it appears to be painted.

While it uses felting needles and wool felt - it really is not felting - it is meshing fabrics together using the barbed needles.

Based on a circa 1945 pattern for Eye Glass Case. In the original the pattern was either appliqued in place or embroidered. For this piece the applique was cut in turquoise wool felt then meshed into the base fabric with barbed needles. The design fabric is fully mixed into the base fabric - it give a trompe l'oeil feel as it appears to be painted.
