Heron flying over Magnolias

The heron colony in Stanley Park has a magnolia tree right in the middle of the nesting trees! Oddly enough, none of the herons pick flowering branches off to bring to their mates. They very frequently pull small branches off all the other trees around their nests, but the Magnolia tree is not a source of twigs for their nests.

This immature bald eagle was sitting in a tree as the sun was setting, probably planning his flight to catch an evening meal. He was oddly close to humans, sitting in a tree beside Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park. Many people stopped to see what my spouse and I were taking pictures of, so he had many humans staring at him.

Heron fly-by past Eagle

We were sitting and watching and taking photos of this immature bald eagle sitting in a tree for a good half hour. We though he might fly away when the blue heron you see in the background sat in a nearby tree and scolded him for several minutes. The eagles have been harassing the heron colony which is very close to where he's sitting here. The eagle just stared at the heron and then watched it fly by.

Drawing attention to themselves by calling back at another eagle who was flying above them, this pair of adult eagles in Stanley Park seem to be a couple. There are at least 6 eagles in the park this year, some adults like these and some immature eagles as well.
