The ''Angel of the North'' was commissioned by Gateshead Council and created by Anthony Gormley. it is Britain's largest sculpture and believed to be the world's largest angel sculpture.The angel was fabricated of 200 tonnes of weathering steel. It rises 20 metres and had a wing span of 54 metres- almost as big a a jumbo jet.
