Behind me, the river sweeps across the fenland, through Kings Lynn and out into The Wash.

The village sign emphasises the name Magdalen, whereas maps show this village as "Wiggenhall St Mary Magdalen".

The village is surrounded by various other Wiggenhalls, so this probably explains why the first bit was dropped (and also because road signs would be huge).

The church was undergoing what looked like heavy renovations on the outside and when i visited, there was an organ playing and people singing inside.

This church played an unusual role in my ancestry in that my Gt Gt Gt Gt Grandparents, Robert Martin and Avis Tall, went from their homes in Little Downham and Littleport to be married here... but i don't know why. It's a long way across lots of fens and rivers to get here.. but i don't know why they 'eloped' all the way out here when their own churches would have been perfect.
