Indian Grey Hornbill

SivamDesign posted a photo:

Not the best of shots but a first of this species. In my haste I seem to have focused on the branch and not the bird. Clicked in extremely low-light conditions. Seemed a shy bird and kept jumping from one branch to the other to try and hide from me but did not take off. Behaviour much like the Greater Coucal. The look of the Indian Grey Hornbill takes us back to the Jurassic period. They are about 24 inches long. The casque is short and pointed. The male has a larger casque on a dark bill while the culmen and lower mandible are yellowish. They are almost completely arboreal and very rarely descend to the ground where they may pick up fallen fruits or dust bathe. They descend to the ground also to pick up mud pellets for sealing the nest cavity during the nesting period. They indulge in various social activities which include bill-grappling and aerial jousting.
