Comment leur nom vient aux plantes ?
Celle ci m'a pris quelques heures avant de pouvoir lui trouver le sien !
Non, le printemps n'est toujours pas là, et cette jolie fleur du Swaziland ne poussera pas dans votre jardin, ni le mien d'ailleurs. C'est une plante médicinale que les Zoulous et les autres ethnies d'Afrique du Sud utiliser pour guérir les maladies des reins ou comme vermifuge.

It took me some hours of search to find this one !
No, spring is not yet there, and this nice plant won't grow in your garden, neither in mine, too ! This plant was used as medecine by Zulus ans other ethnies of South Africa. It was used as a cure for kidney diseases or as a remedy against worms.

Cet arbre a de nombreux noms en fonction des langues d'Afrique du Sud.

Common names include Common Coral Tree, Lucky Bean Tree, Kaffir Boom, Transvaal Kafferboom, Umsintsi (Xhosa), Muvhale (Venda), Mophete (Tswana), Kanniedood (Afrikaans), Mokhungwane (Sotho) and Umsinsi (Zulu).
The Zulu nation regarded Erythrina lysistemon as a royal tree, and they were planted on the graves of chiefs. Erythrina lysistemon is thought to have both medicinal and magical properties by many people. It does contain a large number of alkaloids that are known to be highly toxic, but its use in traditional medicine suggests that they have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. The seeds are used as lucky charms.

Les Zoulous le considérent comme un arbre royal, que l'on plante sur la tombe des chefs. Erythrina lysistemon aurait des propriétés médicinales autant que magiques. Il contient de nombreux alcaloïdes qui sont connus pour leur toxicité, mais qui sont utilisés par la médecine traditionnelle comme antibactérien, anti-inflammatoire et analgésique.
Les graines aussi sont utilisées comme talisman.

L'hiver austral a grillé les herbes de la savane. Les prairies sont séches, brunes, réches.

Selon un phénomène particulier, il faut que le feu passe pour que certaines graines éclosent. La sérotinie est le comportement de certaines espèces de plantes qui conservent leurs graines dans un cône ou une coque en bois éventuellement pendant plusieurs années et les relachent après une exposition au feu. Les cônes ou les coques protègent les graines contre les granivores et de la chaleur dégagée par les feux de forêts. De telles techniques de survie permettent aux graines libérées après un incendie d'avoir moins de concurrence à affronter pour leur survie.
Les graines tombées sur le sol ont une espérance de vie limitée et sont sensibles aux feux de forêts tandis que dans leurs coques les graines restent viables plusieurs années et protégées du feu. Le feu déclenche la libération des graines et leur permet de tomber sur un sol recouvert de cendres qui augmentent le pH du sol ce qui favorise la germination des graines.

Serotiny is an ecological adaptation exhibited by some seed plants, in which seed release occurs in response to an environmental trigger, rather than spontaneously at seed maturation. The most common and best studied trigger is fire. The key adaptations of fire-induced serotiny are a cone or woody fruit that provides protection from the heat of fire, together with a mechanism by which the passage of a fire can trigger seed release. Typically this mechanism is a resin that seals the fruit or cone scales shut, but which melts when heated.
The passage of fire, however, reduces competition by clearing out undergrowth, and results in an ash bed that temporarily increases soil nutrition; thus the survival rates of post-fire seedlings is greatly increased.

Guépier à front blanc
Ils étaient plusieurs, à chasser leur petit déjeuner, autour d'un petit point d'eau. Si léger qu'il leur suffit d'une brindille pour se poser. Ils se nourrissent de quelques insectes, de papillons et de libellules.

J'ai fait cette photo avec mon nouveau télé Samyang 500mm. Pas forcément très commode, une seule ouverture possible, pas d'autofocus, il faut l'utiliser en manuel uniquement !

They were several, chasing for their breakfast, on the verge of a small pond. They are so light, that they only need a small granch to rest. They feed on bugs, butterflies, and dragonflies.

I shot this one with my new tele Samyang 500mm. A bit hard to drive, no diaphragm, no autofocus, it have to be used manually only !

The culture of VhaVenda people is full of mysticism and vivid legends. Water, I mean, lakes, waterfalls, rivers, as well as some lush forests are sacred sites. The waters spirits are everywhere. Please, don't disturb them.
This area used to be the former self governing homeland of Gazankulu, a Tsonga area. Over the water, you can see the Soutpansberg mountain.

La culture du peuple Venda est remplie de mysthicisme, et de légendes toujours vivantes. L'eau, sous forme de lacs, de cascades, de rivières, tout comme les forêts, sont des lieux sacrés. les esprits de l'eau y sont bien présents. Merci de ne pas les déranger.
Ce pays est l'ancien homeland des Gazankulu, de l'ethnie des Tsonga, associés aux Venda. Au fond, les montagnes du Soutpansberg.

Ce bel oiseau, dont vous voyez le male ici, niche à même le sol, souvent à proximité de buissons et de fourrés où il peut se réfugier en cas de danger. Celui ci a longuement jeté son cri d'alarme, en jets stridents, inquiet d'être admiré et photographié. Ses plus proches congénéres lui répondent alors, en soutien et solidarité, l'air de dire, "c'est rien, c'est juste un mauvais moment à passer !"

The Red-crested korhaan is near-endemic to southern Africa, being uncommon to locally common in a range of woodland habitats. It is omnivorous, feeding on invertebrates, especially termites, beetles and grasshoppers, and plant matter, especially seeds and fruit, foraging on the ground, picking up food items with its bill. The male puts on a spectacular courtship display to multiple females, who solely incubate the eggs and raise the chicks. It lays 1-2 eggs, which are incubated solely by the female, for about 22 days, and little is known about the chicks.

J'étais dans un abri pour observer les bords de la rivière. Ce matin là, il y avait des hyppopotames en train de jouer, quelques crocos allongés sur le sable, et des girafes entrain de manger les feuilles des hautes arbres. Ce martin pêcheur est passé, faisant quelques secondes de sur place, avant de plonger ou de voler un peu plus loin.
Un instant de grâce, absorbé par l'observation des poissons...

I was in the hide, observing what was going on in the river below. Some hippos were playing, some crocs laying on the river sand, and giraffes eating the upper leaves of some trees. This king fisher appeared, hoovering over the water, staying on the spot for a few seconds, and then, it was gone, a few yards away, concentrated on catching his morning meal.

Danseur du Swaziland

Le village traditionnel de Mantenga est un écomusée qui présente la manière de vivre au Swaziland comme au XIXème siècle. Plusieurs jeunes gens vivent dans ce village pendant des mois, de la même manière que les anciens. L'objectif du village est de conserver la culture Swazi, la langue, les coutumes, les rites, la musique, les danses, l'artisanat et les pratiques artistiques.
Un groupe de jeunes danseurs offre un spectacle de chants et danses traditionnelles, dernier témoignage d'une culture en train de disparaitre.

The Mantenga cultural village is a living museum of old traditions and represents a classical age Swazi lifestyle during the 1850's. Several young people live in the village for months, in the same way they used too, in the old days. The objective of the cultural village is to maintain Swazi cultural heritage, including language, customs and practices, rituals, dance, music, folklore, arts and crafts.
Traditional dancers perform on drum beat, offering a unique testimony of vanishing culture.

Sighting of an elephant is always thrilling. Sometimes, it's a solitary male. Sometimes, it's a whole group with youngters. This one was alone, and really cautious before crossing the road. Maybe he had some bad experience previously.
Elephant are so sensible. They are intelligent, and have a wonderfully good memory.
The most you observe them, the most you learn from their behaviour...

Ces droles de petits oiseaux sont très farouches, et ils n'arrêtent pas de voleter. Ils sont difficile à voir, même si vous les entendez babiller au dessus de votre tête.
La patience aide la chance, pour enfin les mettre en boite !
