As I explained in the comments thread, I bought a little wooden slatted blind from a charity shop and I just hang it by S-shaped hooks from any handy curtain pole. Even when it's in front of a wide window it doesn't show in photographs that it's actually a prop. The portability means I can take it wherever the sun happens to be at the time. I had my daughter kneeling by a window and suddenly the sun appeared and did this to her face. It disappeared just as quickly but luckily I snapped at the right time. Very little processing here, beyond a high contrast Silver FX Pro b&w conversion.

Wonderful chap who we met in the Crown in Old Amersham today, sitting in an easy chair by the fire. He had a compelling face and was full of interesting stories about his life. He'd travelled the world from the middle east to South America and when he wasn't enjoying a pint, he spent his time deep sea diving in Egypt!

The long piece of parchment is an undated letter or contract. It's difficult to read, but I think it's a medieval marriage contract. The letter and envelope to the right are bordered in black to denote mourning. Something else I collect. The old books are just old books. Actually, I collect all sorts of antiquarian manuscripts and other paper epherema. Not quite sure what the overall message of the shot is, so I'll leave it to the viewer.
