Monastery of Zangberg with arcades seen from inside.
----------------
The building of Monastery Zangberg traces back to an ancient castle that was errected around year 1000.
The building was largely extended in 1285. Several hundret years later, in 1687, the complete building was rebuild as a four-winged palace by Ferdinand Maria Franz Freiherr von Neuhaus after a horrible fire.
In 1862 the palace was sold from Carl Theodor Graf Geldern-Egmont to the "Schwestern der Heimsuchung" (Sisters of Visitation) who belong to the religious order of the Visitation of Holy Mary and who own this building until today.

A wonderful quiet and relaxing place and atmosphere....
Time for a stroll.
In 1894, Otto Lilienthal built this artificial conical hill you can see in the background. The hill, called Fliegerberg or "Aviator's Hill" was near his home in Berlin-Lichterfelde, It allowed him to launch his gliders into the wind no matter which direction it was coming from. The hill is 15 metres high. There was a regular crowd of people and also many photographers that were interested in seeing his gliding experiments.

My wife on Castle Son Marroig, looking down the western coast of Mallorca.
MR+PR available.
----------------
In 1867 Castle Son Marroig and a lot of surrounding land was bought by Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria, who first visited Mallorca, arriving with his ship Nixe from Ibiza.
Ludwig Salvator quickly fell in love with Mallorca and many of its female inhabitants....
From 1872 until 1913 he lived continiously on Son Marroig, only intermitted by many of his worldwide exploring expeditions around the globe.
During his time on Son Marroig August Salvator wrote most of his famous and prizewinning seven-part book "The Baleric Islands", which until today is mostly "up to date"...and was the first catalyzer for tourism on Mallorca.
August wanted always to preserve the nature, and consequently forbid hunting and cutting of trees on his grounds. He can be called as one of the first enviromental activits.

In 1892 Augusts cousin, Elisabeth Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary (sometimes better known as Sissi), enjoyed this view down the Mallorcan coastline...
