Italy - Sicily - Aci Trezza with the typical volcanic stacks on the shores of Mediterranean sea at Sunrise

Volcanic coast of Sicily has created some really interesting seascapes... just perfect for any landscape photographer.

This old fishermen village is also known with the name of Riviera dei Ciclopi, and it offers to tourists a really unique panorama dominated by Faraglioni dei Ciclopi: eight big, basaltic stacks
that, as the legend goes, were thrown by Polyphemus against Ulysses during his flight. They are also visible from the beach of Aci Trezza, that is placed North to Aci Castello; it is a beautiful beach of sand mixed with gravel and pebbles formed by lava, characterizing a peculiar black cliff of volcanic origin. The sea is very clean, its waters are crystal-clear and uncontaminated; the seabed is wonderful and ideal for scuba diving. There are many species of fish such as groupers, congers, moray eels, whitebaits all swimming among the green algae and Posidonia.

Camera Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark II; Lens: 17.00 - 40.00 mm; Focal length: 26.00 mm; Aperture: 22; Exposure time: 4.0 s; ISO: 100

Bokod is the lake in Hungary, some 80 kilometers west of Budapest. It’s an interesting and beautiful place. Plenty of old fishing houses on the water which look rather romantic with the various wooden bridges. Unfortunately there is a huge smoking and loud factory on the shore of the lake that destroys almost all views from every position. Nevertheless, I left with few photographs which show how even an ugly place can turn into a beauty when a right framing eliminates the xxxx.

The Halászbástya or Fisherman's Bastion is a terrace in neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque style situated on the Buda bank of the Danube, on the Castle hill in Budapest, around Matthias Church. The Bastion takes its name from the guild of fishermen that was responsible for defending this stretch of the city walls in the Middle Ages. It is a viewing terrace, with many stairs and walking paths. Its seven towers represent the seven Magyar tribes that settled in the Carpathian Basin in 896.

Not your usual shot of Budapest that you find on postcards and books, reason being that it has been captured from top corner suite of Hilton hotel, which has some of the best views over the city. There is nothing I enjoy more than having the perfect view from the hotel room !! So when I get up for the morning shots at 4 AM, I only have to crawl out of bed and push the button... ;-) (although that is also not always the easiest as most hotel with high floors dont allow to have windows open, so you have to deal with various reflections on the glass etc..)

There are things we can control (timing, place, etc) but there are things that we cannot... I visited Sicily when Etna volcano had its more active period. I have found this perfect place with lovely church on the sea shore with the Etna volcano in the background. Only waiting for it to start the lava flow... It didnt happen those few days I was there, but just a single day after I left.... well... next time...

btw, if you look carefuly to the top right coner, you'll see it is smoke coming from the volcano, not a cloud.

© Lucie Debelkova / www.luciedebelkova.com posted a photo:

The South Stack Lighthouse has warned passing ships of the treacherous rocks below since its completion in 1809. The 28 m (91 ft) lighthouse was designed by Daniel Alexander and the main light is visible to passing vessels for 28 miles, and was designed to allow safe passage for ships on the treacherous Dublin - Holyhead - Liverpool sea route. It provides the first beacon along the northern coast of Anglesey for east-bound ships. It is followed by lighthouses, fog horns and other markers at North Stack, Holyhead breakwater, The Skerries, the Mice and at the north-east tip of the island Trwyn-Du. The lighthouse is operated remotely by Trinity House. It has been visited by the team at Most Haunted.

Coastline of Wales is dotted with some amazing sights and lightouses however the location of South Stack Lighthouse is one of Wales' most spectacular. I personally nicknamed it to "Neist Point of Wales"
UK - Wales - North Wales - Isle of Anglesey - Holyhead - South Stack Lighthouse - Designed to allow safe passage for ships on the treacherous Dublin - Holyhead - Liverpool sea route

UK - Wales - Conwy County Borough - Llandudno Pier at Dusk - Twilight - Blue Hour

Llandudno is a seaside resort and town in Conwy County Borough, Wales. Llandudno, "Queen of the Welsh Resorts", a title first implied as early as 1864, is now the largest seaside resort in Wales, and lies on a flat isthmus of sand between the Welsh mainland and the Great Orme peninsula. Llandudno was formerly in the district of Aberconwy within Gwynedd, and until 1974 was in Caernarfonshire.

Llandudno Pier is at 2,295 feet (700 m) the longest in Wales and the fifth longest in England and Wales. A British Tourist Authority report in 1975 said of it: '.... It zooms out of the sea.... in a spectacular Indian Gothic style rather like a Maharajah's palace floating on a lake. Cast iron, brackets of iron lacework, an outstandingly pretty balustrade like an enlarged fish net, ogee roofs curling away to the sky, all add up to a totally pleasurable experience.'

I have captured several piers in various places in UK and I have also taken the traditional one leading towards the sea of this one as well. However the location of Llandudno pier is little bit unusual and it allowed me to take shot of it from a side, which resulted in this interesting and less usual view.

Ynys Llanddwyn or Llanddwyn Island is a small tidal island off the west coast of Anglesey, North Wales. The island is of geological interest with pillow lava, jasper formations and aeolian sand deposits. The island forms part of the National Nature Reserve of Newborough Warren which includes the extensive and floristically rich sand dune system. Llanddwyn Island is a tidal island; it remains attached to the mainland at all but the highest tides.

In 2004, Llanddwyn Island was used as a filming location in Demi Moore's romantic thriller Half Light. Tŵr Mawr was used as a lighthouse which plays a key role in the film. CGI was used to create the effect of a real light on top of the lighthouse.

Conwy Castle - Conway Castle - Castell Conwy is a castle in Conwy, on the north coast of Wales. It was built between 1283 and 1289 [1] during King Edward I's second campaign in North Wales.

Conwy castle is a gritty, dark stoned fortress which has the rare ability to evoke an authentic medieval atmosphere. The first time that visitors catch sight of the castle, commanding a rock above the Conwy Estuary and demanding as much attention as the dramatic Snowdonia skyline behind it, they know they are in the presence of a historic site which still casts a powerful spell. Conwy is the classic walled town. Its circuit of walls, over three quarters of a mile long and guarded by no less than 22 towers, is one of the finest in the World.
UK - Scotland - Highlands - Stormy Evening at Loch Ness

© Lucie Debelkova / www.luciedebelkova.com posted a photo:

Loch Ness is a large, deep, freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands (57°18′N 4°27′W) extending for approximately 37 km (23 mi) southwest of Inverness. Its surface is 15.8 m (52 ft) above sea level. Loch Ness is best known for the alleged sightings of the cryptozoological Loch Ness Monster, also known affectionately as "Nessie". Loch Ness is the second largest Scottish loch by surface area at 56.4 km2 (21.8 sq mi) after Loch Lomond, but due to its great depth, it is the largest by volume. Its deepest point is 230 m (755 ft), deeper than the height of London's BT Tower at 189 m (620 ft) and deeper than any other loch except Loch Morar. It contains more fresh water than all the lakes in England and Wales combined, and is the largest body of water on the Great Glen Fault, which runs from Inverness in the north to Fort William in the south.

Loch Ness might be the biggest body of water of UK, but it doesnt make it the most photogenic one. It is actually quite difficult to come up with a nice shot and ok foreground. For that very reason, I was happy to have found this place during such a wonderful evening stormy light... and I had had no luck with seeing the monster during any of my visits to this place...

John o'Groats is famed as the northeastern corner of the British Mainland and the small village receives a huge number of visitors. The true northeasterly point is nearby Duncansby Head, which has two truly spectacular sea-stacks just to the south. An excellent coastal walk. Duncansby Head is the real north eastern tip of the Scottish mainland, and probably exceeds John o' Groat's distance from Lands End by a good mile or two.

Neist Point is surely one of those iconic and equally impressive sights on Isle of Skye. The last time I was there I was not very lucky with the weather. This time around, I have checked the forecast and headed there in hope of stunning sunset. When I got there it was still rather sunny, but too early with wrong shadows on the rock. Soon after my arrival lots of clouds started to appear completely covering the sun for next 2 hours... while I was waiting on the cliff, and those 5-6C didnt really feel that warm... after those 2 hours of waiting (and playing around with various compositions) the sun had appeared for 5 mins, so I could take this simple composition but with wonderful warm evening light on the rock with some dramatic stormy sky. At least I got those 5 mins... I didnt get even that last time..

The Green Bridge of Wales is a spectacular natural arch, which has been carved by the sea into the cliffs of the Pembrokeshire coast. Visitors can reach this feature by means of the Pembrokeshire coastal path, near Bosherston, an easy grass path which leads to a viewing platform. The 186 mile (299km) coastal Path meanders on through some of the most ruggedly picturesque scenery in the world, with outstanding views of charming in-lets leading peaceful golden beaches, mysterious smugglers caves and other natural formations shaped by time and tide.

Quite possibly the most hidden gem of the Italian Riviera, Tellaro is quintessential seaside Italy at its best. Tellaro is a beautiful traditional village on the east coast of the Gulf of La Spezia in Liguria, northern Italy. Tellaro is a sea village of old origin built on the rocks with strong fortifications which role was to control potential invaders coming from the sea. Tellaro is a typical village from the Riviera Ligure, with its houses next to each other, separated only by small steep and winding streets which end up in a small square, beyond which a long quip separates the village from the beautiful and untouched beaches that can be reached thanks to specific services.

The Legend of Tellaro

Supposedly back in the 17th century, there was only a fortress where Tellaro now stands which served to protect another village, Barbazzano, a bit more inland from the sea from Saracen pirates who came to steal its famous and lucrative olive oil. The fortress was built on a very rugged coastline so disembarking was difficult and the bell tower of the church was used as an alarm in case of invasion. One stormy night the Saracens managed to sneak onto land as the village slept peacefully (including the man who was supposed to be on the lookout!). But somehow, or someone or some THING, rang the church bell, the village awoke and rushed to the defense of their precious land, beating the Saracens before they could reach the village. Legend has it that some of the townspeople saw a big octopus which has emerged from the sea and held fast to the rope of the bell awakening the whole village! From that day forward, the octopus, known as Tellarsi, symbolizes the village of Tellaro.

Schloss Ort (or Schloss Orth) is an Austrian castle situated in the Traunsee lake, in Gmunden, 19 km from Vöcklabruck, the gate to Salzkammergut. Ort Castle is built on ancient Roman foundations that are set on a tiny isle a few kilometers offshore from the town’s center.

Yet another result of a rainy evening and me holding an umbrella above the camera. There are rather high mountains behind the castle, however due to the heavy rain.. not much can be seen.. As with my previous Austria shot, I'm really pleased with this result and it shows that it is worth being out there even when there is a rain !

Italy - Venice - Grand Canal & Basilica Santa Maria della Salute durning early morning

The Grand Canal - Canal Grande - Canałasso is a canal in Venice, Italy. It forms one of the major water-traffic corridors in the city. Public transport is provided by water buses - vaporetti and private water taxis, and many tourists explore the canal by gondola. At one end the canal leads into the lagoon near Santa Lucia railway station and the other end leads into Saint Mark Basin: in between it makes a large S-shape through the central districts (sestieri) of Venice. It is 3,800 m long, 30–90 m wide, with an average depth of five meters (16.5 ft).

The Basilica of St Mary of Health - Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, commonly known simply as the Salute, is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica located in the Dorsoduro sestiere of the Italian city of Venice. It stands on a narrow finger of land between the Grand Canal and the Bacino di San Marco making the church visible when entering the Piazza San Marco from the water. The Salute is part of the parish of the Gesuati and is the most recent of the so-called Plague-churches. In 1630 Venice experienced an unusually devastating outbreak of the plague. As a votive offering for the city's deliverance from the pestilence, the Republic of Venice vowed to build and dedicate a church to Our Lady of Health (or of Deliverance, Italian: Salute). The church was designed in the then fashionable baroque style by Baldassare Longhena, who studied under the architect Vincenzo Scamozzi. Construction began in 1631. Most of the objects of art housed in the church bear references to the Black Death. The dome of the Salute was an important addition to the Venice skyline and soon became emblematic of the city, inspiring artists like Canaletto, J. M. W. Turner, John Singer Sargent and Francesco Guardi.
