I felt well enough to go for a short walk this morning and took my camera/ macro lens along. I'm still not feeling 100% [ sore throat lingering] but am done with just laying around the house.

I saw a lot of ladybugs and a crab spider. Thanks everyone for your well wishes. I hope to catch up here tonight.

Macey belongs to my brother [and sister in law]. We celebrated Father's Day at their house today and Macey was quite the highlight. She's a bundle of energy so I was really lucky to get this shot as she's doesn't really know the command "stay" very well--and she was in hyper mode the entire time. I forget her age....she's about 6 months old now.

I really miss not having a dog since losing Jasmine in March. Emory and I have lost all structure to our day not having a dog...becoming couch potatoes and not going on our morning/ afternoon walks.

I'd love to adopt another dog but Emory [my husband] says "no" because of Rusty. He's afraid that a new dog would frighten Rusty too much given the tough five years he had with Jasmine. ..which is still fresh in his mind.

I don't mind taking a break from having a dog this summer as we do need to focus more on our cats and having a dog/ or puppy is a lot of work and time commitment.

But eventually, I hope Emory will realize that if we go about it the right way and find the "right" puppy [ or adult] the cats will be fine and we can help a dog in need of a home.

Another fear we have is the prevalence of cancer and how it takes our pets from us way too soon. Although it isn't a concern early on, eventually it would be--and we're still traumatized over what happened to Jasmine.

We finally got some rain the last two days. My cat's were't very happy about it so when the sun came out for a bit this afternoon, Keiko was quick to go outside and stretch her legs.

She's 15 yrs old and is doing much better now after having a tough few weeks last March.

This nuthatch was one of many birds at my feeders today. Got lots of fledglings [robin, starling, chickadee] being fed by their parents. This nuthatch was enjoying suet.

I've been buying worms for the robins since our ground is too dry for them to forage. The robins are eating them and feeding to their young faster than I can keep up. I've been to three stores today and all were out of worms due to it being fishing season and they sell out quickly. I've got an area in my backyard that has worms but i've pretty much depeleted those digging them up these past few days.

We saw lots of bunnies on our morning walk today. This one was quite small/ young.

Been busy with relatives from out of town. They leave on Friday--so will not be on flickr until then.

These were taken the other day at the refuge.

This is a post & go as it's going to be a VERY busy Saturday for me. Dog walk this morning for the no-kill humane shelter and then a birthday party tonight for my nephew [ he turns 31 today-]

Thank you for all your birthday wishes for my cat June !!! She celebrated by staying up late playing into the night. I'll be here periodically today but not much.

River ‘S’ Discovery Auto Tour route. These goslings are getting big fast...which increases the odds of their survival. I love how they stayed in line so well flanked by their parents.

River ‘S’ Discovery Auto Tour route. I were happy to see this doe who had two of her youngsters with her.[the third deer is out of the frame]..and it looks like the mother [on the right] may be carrying a new baby. The youngsters were lively and ran around a lot, but she wasn't as frisky.

Saturday June 1st is June's 10th birthday. [I'm posting early because I will be busy involved in a shelter fundraiser on Saturday].

I wanted June to wear a party hat but she wouldn't have any part of it so had to improvise via Ribbet.com.

June is the youngest of our three cats. She's always been very healthy despite a recent trip to ER for an unexplained bout of tummy upset. She's a joy--very feisty and loves to hunt mice.

With the recent rains I've been finding lots of snails on our hikes. I snapped a quick shot of this one while moving it off the trail and out of harms way.

We saw a real improvement in Keiko today as she's acting like her old happy self again after having a week of being afflicted with numerous maladies. Here she is doing her favorite thing....rolling on the road. sigh.

It's been raining here most of the week but that's ok as it's been bone dry all year and we really need the rain.

I am getting tired of all the negativity here--everyone has a right to whine/ complain....but can we stop already? If you don't want to be here---then go. I know I'm going to lose a lot of contacts....that makes me sad. But I'll be here if you decide to come back. Smile and be happy!--Life is too short.
