The highly discussed bridge designed by Santiago Calatrava over the Grand Canal.
Despite all fuzz about it, the new link between the station and Piazzale Roma functions well in the city´s routing, an essential addition to the three existing bridges.
It seems futuristic in it´s context, but at the same time it breaths an atmosphere of eternity, thus blending well in Venice. Just give it some time and uplift Piazzale Roma a bit...

Chrome arches over the Glorieta de las Reales Academias or for the locals ´plaza de los arcos´.
Coincidentally I discovered these while panning on Google Earth for work, did not know they existed since they are located in a complete different part of Madrid. They form a modern arch over one of the main entrance roads in the north of the city.

I admit there is no clear structure in my posts here on Flickr. One week a bird, the other this amazing refinery installation. The only relation is they have a specific beauty and interestingness.

This is a petrochemical plant in the Botlek area near Rotterdam. One of the most bizarre man made ´scapes´ one can imagine. Especially at night this turns into an unreal world, dominated by lights, chimneys, valves and pipes. As being an artificial intelligense these factories operate 24h seemingly without human intervention.
No sound indicates life, but close by a heavy diesel train accelerates, flares bursting out of pipes produce a roaring noise and there´s a low frequent zooming of machinery.

Tokyo´s amazing urban complexity leads many times to interesting situations. The stacking of infrastructure is a result of density, and the prevailing of functionality in service of the economy, over ´beautiful´ city views.

Here the Nihombashy highway runs over an older canalized river. It´s banks are completely ocupied by buildings, making the river unuseful as public space.

Formation of soap bubbles under a glass in a sink. Very literal description. I´m so fascinated by these kind of natural structures. Simply found it in the kitchen of work. A photo without any special treatment, lighting or whatever. What you see is what you get ...

But still i should take more time for making the lighting right. For this one i simply used the camara flash with a piece of paper in front. The bright light you see comes from the mirror next to the sink (couldn´t remove it).

Side detail of the elevators of the Reina Sofia museum. The elevators were added later to the museum which used to be a hospital. This example of ´high tech´ architecture functions by means of suspending the glass facade from the roof. One tension rod (next to the facade) bears the weight of the facade, the other functions as counter balance for the arms and is connected to huge box springs on the ground.
