Rode up to the field behind South Burlington Middle School to tool around. It was both much easier, and much more difficult than I expected. Which is to say this has a LOT more traction in slush and snow than I expected, while it takes far more effort than to pedal it around than I thought it would.

One thing I hadn't thought of before that I now realize: getting your pedaling kicks during winter on a bike like this vs a road bike with studded tires means you're going to go a LOT slower, which means the wind factor is decreased by an order of magnitude. I can basically go out and ride this in street clothes, in zero degree weather (which is exactly what I did tonight).

He didn't seem to care at all that I was all up in his face. I actually "relocated" him at one point and he just kept on chowin' down (he was in a hard to reach spot originally).

Strobist: Single direct 580EX hand held on a hot shoe cord at about the 11:00 position, manual 1/32
Exif: 1/250, F/14, ISO 100 w/ Sigma 70mm Macro on a 40D mounted on a Velbon focusing rail.

The lighting was not diffused and looked much "harder" but I smoothed it out a bit in Lightroom.

This spider still lives outside by back door, three weeks later. He spins some impressive webs. I hope he sticks around.
