Not the greatest shot, scanned from film but thought you might find it interesting...

A common practice of the Inca People was to keep skulls of death ancestors in a corner of the house on a altar; it was believed the skulls will protect the family from dangerous people and bad spirits. Ollantaytambo. Peru

Peru-237 - Machu Picchu (from film)

This is the first place I went to when I started to travel by plane, still one of my favourite spots on earth.

Machu Picchu means “Old Peak” and the higher Huayna Picchu “Young Peak” stands vigil over it. It’s remains are in a comparatively good state of preservation because the Spaniards never found it. It was buried in the jungle for centuries, until Hiram Bingham discovered it in 1911. The city remained inaccessible until the 1940s, when the Inca Trail cutting through the valley was discovered.

Theories about what happened to the inhabitants range from epidemics to their occupants being isolated at the time of the fall of the Inca Empire. Excavations only added to the mystery to what happened to the city. They found 173 skeletons, of which 150 were woman. At the tomb of the high priest skeletons of a women and a dog were found. The women suffered from syphilis.

This skull was deformed by binding wood to the skull of a new born baby, a common Inca practice. Yucay valley, Peru

There have been movies and TV specials that have suggested it was an alien skull....LOL

This picture has been published in a magazine and was scanned from film.

This is the first thing I purchased since I started to travel the world and the last of my items I will post. This is a water container from Peru, it is filled from the bottom, then turn it up the correct way, the water stays inside until you pour it out the spout. I have seen something similar in another country but don't remember where. It really amazed me when I saw it work.

It is 7" (17.8cm) high and 4" (10.16cm) in diameter and cost me $2 US.

I am not sure if there is anything on the computer to upload but I will check, I maybe off for a few days.

I just took this picture to show the top keychain (and how I take the pictures), another small collection, sometimes I make them into Christmas ornaments or give them as gifts.

Left to right - Peru, Egypt, China, Vietnam, Mexico and top Morocco.

I want to share a short story about the top keychain.

As my group and I were walking through the Fez Medina (Fez, Morocco) I was taking pictures of everything. It is said, "If you go into the Medina a young man without a guide you will come out a old man", it is a maze. I usually go ahead of the group or wait till they leave the area, this time I let them get ahead and got my shots but when I finished I could not find where they went!!!! I went running and a man leaning again a wall pointed down a street indicating go that way, I gave him a small Canadian flag pin (always carry them) and finally caught up to the group. We were being hounded by people walking with us trying to sell us things. We had been walking about 20 minutes when a man started tapping me on the shoulder and I just kept saying NO but he kept it up, finally he showed me the pin I gave him and he gave me this key chain, what a surprise that was. It is the Hand of Fatima, refering to Fatima Zahra, Prophet Muhammad’s daughter. It is a sort of “protection of the hand” or “The hand of God“.

This is one of the first things I purchased when I started my travels. I bought it the last day I was in Peru at the hotel, the artist had many items and all were beautiful. This is all handmade and every figure is different, it is a candle holder. This is still one of my favourite things I have from all my travels. I have another item I will post later a small bowl from the same artist.

This is 10" High and 6" wide and cost approx. $60 US.

DGJ_4736 - Peru Candle Holder

PLEASE, no multi invitations in your comments. DO NOT FEEL YOU HAVE TO COMMENT.Thanks.

$60 US.

Government Palace also known as the House of Pizarro. Since the founding of Lima this was the place where the conqueror Pizarro worked and lived until his death in 1541. It has magnificent halls such as Salon Dorado where important paintings are exhibited. It also has an elegant area which is the official residence of the President of Peru.

Peru-293 - Humming Bird
The Humming Bird is part of the Nazca Lines in Peru, created by the Nasca Culture between 200 BC and 700 AD, it is 93 meters (305 feet) long.

The Nazca Lines are a series of ancient geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert in southern Peru and are best seen from the air.

The lines are shallow designs made in the ground by removing the pebbles and uncovering the whitish ground beneath. Hundreds are simple lines or geometric shapes; more than seventy are designs of animal, bird, fish, or human figures. The largest figures are over 200 metres (660 ft) across. Scholars differ in interpreting the purpose of the designs, but in general they ascribe religious significance to them.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I phoned the doctors today for information about the lump removed from my chest. I was told it is taking so long as it is very rare and it went to 4 different labs, the results will be sent very soon.
