Moving house sure does keep you busy and having an exhibition right in the middle of it makes for an even more hectic life. I'm delighted to be exhibiting my work in The Copperhouse Gallery, Dublin and hopefully now that I've settled in I'm looking forward to working on some new images like the one above. I'm also making plans to hold a workshop on intermediate photoshop skills in November so if you're interested mail me and I'll let you know the details.

So I moved house six months ago. Lock stock and barrel. And now I'm moving again. I'll be be sorry to leave the house because its wonderful as is the salmon and trout tree lined river and the deer that frolic alongside it . What I won't be sorry about is not having to drive the four kids to and from school which can take up to 4 hours a day.
The image above is a representation of me. Packed and ready to go. I'm moving from the countryside and closer to Dublin and I can't wait as I have had no time for my own work recently. Having said that I'm excited and a little nervous to be doing my first wedding tomorrow. I've got my backup cameras ready and spare batteries just in case :-)

Today I got the new extended Photoshop CS6. To say I was excited was an understatement. Now I've used Photoshop before but I only ever had an old version and kept reverting back to my trusty old Gimp as I found it much easier to use. I have to say that I love the CS6 and I find the interface is much easier to use than on the older one I had. So I worked on the image above today and I plan on importing all my brushes tomorrow when I get some time. I'm happy with the colours here and I really like the contrasting turquoise as it really pops which is what I wanted.

I've had this idea in my head for ages. I dream about it. Twirling around and around and flying wherever I want to. It's a wonderful feeling of freedom mixed with a fear of where I'll end up. Appropriate to my life in every way.

a visit to ireland

She came on a visit to Ireland and her father saw my work at the IFSC and asked if I could do a portrait of his daughter. He wanted one similar to one I had already done and so we set a date that week which was two days before their return to the USA . Here's the end result after working on it today.. I'll be shipping it off to him tomorrow. Happy shooting

light the way

At the bottom of my garden is a river with trees lining it. it's a salmon and trout river and the leaves on the trees are sparser now than they have been since I moved here in September. Now in the mornings there is frost on the grass like a white carpet and I can feel the chill in the air. Winter is here at last. I quite like winter and the changes it brings to the landscape. I'm excited about my next workshop which I'm holding on 26th January. I've a couple of models lined up and a hair stylist and MUA too. Here's hoping the rain stays away as I want to head up to Sally Gap in the Mountains where the views are out of this world. The picture above is inspired by many things, but mostly by emotions, moods and winter. I'm happy with the end result and now I'm off to gather ideas and props for 26th Jan. Happy Shooting ;-)

A new year means new beginings. Time to realize what we are willing to be tied down by and what we aren't. Whats worth jumping through hoops for and what isn't. I'm making important decisions these days and looking forward to seeing how they turn out. I love having my work to turn to to make visual what I'm feeling. It's so cathartic and I'm not sure where I would be without it. How lucky I feel to be able to wile away my time doing something that I really love.

I'm holding a workshop on 26th January '13 in Enniskerry, Wicklow for beginners on photomanipulation and storytelling through photography with Models & props so feel free to contact me if you're interested in joining in. I'd love to have you.

I was going to buy a new digital camera this Christmas but my research has changed my mind after seeing lovely old 4 x 5 large format camera for sale. Converting the film holders to wetplate holders is a hassle though and to learn a little more I'm meeting up with a collodion photographer who's going to give me a few tips.

I finished work on this the last day of my 17 day stint at the IFSC Docklands Festival where I've been exhibiting my work. I'm so looking forward to relaxing and taking time out to do a few things for myself like taking a soak in a hot bath and having a lie on in the morning though not too much of a lie on as I've lots of last minute shopping to catch up on before the big day. Happy Christmas Everyone & a Happy New Year. :-)

Being the mother of four kids means a busy life rushing here and there and when I throw my art exhibitions into the mix it makes for an even more chaotic life. But these past 17 days have been so different for me. I've been sitting here beside my work all day and it's been such an unusual experience just hanging around doing nothing much except working on some images and drinking lots of coffee. So I think this picture which I finished working on yesterday is pretty aptly named.

This picture is something that I've been wanting to do for over a year now. So I'm glad I got a chance to work on it this week. In life, I often find I have no idea at all where I'm heading. I've felt this way many, many times this past year with all the changes in my life and when I'm really at a loss as to an important life choice I have to make I take time out to listen to my intuition. So far it hasn't let me down and the lovely thing about it that I've found is that there is so much freedom in this not knowing and heading off into the unknown. In finding myself in a place or situation that I haven't been in before and might not ever have found myself in if I'd known in advance how hard it would be. But like all things that are hard to come by they are usually very well worth it.

This is another picture for my flower girl collection. When I get commissions they are usually for portraits like this rather than some of the more moody shots which I've uploaded before this picture. Personally if I had a choice I'd prefer working on the more moody ones because they are like little stories which makes it all the more interesting for me to work on. I chose blue and orange for this portrait because I love the mix of the two colours and besides, it goes nicely with her hair ;-)

I was thinking about how bad I am at accepting help from others. Asking for help is even harder for me. Now that things have changed for me I know that I'll have to change also. With this picture I wanted to show how it really is ok to lie back and accept the gifts that life offers me whether I have to ask for them or not. I'm exhibiting at the IFSC Airtricity Christmas Festival on St Georges Dock, Dublin 1, Ireland and delighted to get a chance to showcase my work there. If you're nearby do come to the Festival. Its wonderful especially at night ;-)

leaping into the unknown

For the first time in many years I'm going to be working a full day from 10am - 8pm starting this Friday and every day including weekends right up to Christmas Eve. I've taken a stand at the IFSC Christmas Festival Fair and see it as a trial run to see whether or not its worth setting up my own gallery selling mine and other artists work and sculpture in Dublin. To me this is a real leap into the unknown and I'm a bit unsure about how I'll manage all the logistics that go along with having four kids still in school and a house to run but I've lots and lots of support from friends and family so I'm going to give it a go. Right now I'm busy making sure I have all the prints I need in their proper frames and finishing off a commission I've been working on this week. Everything seems to be in order so I'm off now to the printer and framer to have a couple of pictures printed out which I've only ever seen on my computer screen. .......now, that...... I find exciting.

I had been planning to make this photo for such a long time now and have finally got around to it at last. After my husband died last year I lost my desire to work on my photography. There was so much to do being the single mother of four daughters and moving house didn't help. But now that I've unpacked most of the boxes and got myself into a routine I'm looking forward to sitting down as much as I can in my new office to create new work.
If you want to see more of my work you can from 7th December - 24th December at the IFSC in Dublin. I'm so excited to be there and hoping to fit lots of Christmas shopping in while I'm at it ;-)

I drove down to Kerry the first week of August and shot this and lots of other landscapes around the Ring of Kerry. Now I'm only waiting for another occasion when I can return to take some more. The landscape there is unbelievable. Every time I turned a corner as I drove the coast road I was greeted by another jaw dropping view.
I've had the photos in a folder on my desktop waiting to be worked on since then. I've been very busy exhibiting lately and I wanted to give them the time they deserved. I've more from this series which I'll post over the coming weeks.
This piece is a composite of four photographs. I tilted the camera up, took a shot, then down and stitched them together to make a square because I like the visual effect a square gives. I added the model and and the branches in her hair and put a texture layer on top of everything to give it a more cohesive look.
You can see more of my work at the Tramyard in Dalkey, Ireland where I am exhibiting with Piergroup on the run up to Christmas and I'm giving a workshop in January, so if you're from Ireland and interested in joining in do drop me a line.
