This is from my 3rd trip to Montague Island to see the Australian Fur Seals. Montague Island is a 45 minute boat ride from the town of Narooma (~5 hours drive south of Sydney). The seals are very interactive, often playfully biting the end of your fins as a game.

Each trip to Montague Island i've moved closer to the shore where the colony is located. On this day I got ~15 feet from the shore in ~6 feet of water. This turned out to be too close to the colony for the 700 pound alpha bull, who slowly moved up to be about a foot in front of me. He then opened his mouth and bark-grunted so loudly I could feel the sound reverberate through my body. I took the photo and moved back ~10 feet and he appeared to relax. Lesson on territorial behaviour learnt.

For the record, the turtle is not tied to the line. This is the house reef at Magic Island Resort in Moalboal Cebu (recommend it). This huge turtle was sitting in the same spot for each of the 7 dives i did here (usually five or six other turtles in close proximity).
