Home of the Last Great Cherokee Medicine Man

One of the things I love about the Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains is that for photography purposes, they lend themselves to black & white and color images equally as well, especially as here, where the colors were crappy, especially in the early afternoon.

Have a great Sunday. Only a few more left until the kids go back to school...

Today, I'm gonna post in black & white. I did the conversion using Nik Silver Efx Pro.

This of course is the Smoky Mountains at Big Witch Overlook at mm 462 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Maggie Valley, NC. This place is known as being the home of the last important Cherokee medicine man.

The elevation here is 4160 feet and as you can see, the clouds are literally in your face.

Today's posts are additional images from my upcoming photo photo essay on the Miami River and the Miami River Bridges. Both these shots were taken with my iPhone and were converted to B&W using Nik Silver Efx Pro. I normally take iPhone shots along with my regular gear to geotag locations and to get different angles I can't get due to tripod limitations or when I'm in a hurry. I was impressed with the quality of the images here. I decided to convert to B&W as a contrast to the color images I've been taking with the Canon.

Came across this dilapidated structure a few blocks away from the entrance to Bushkill in the Poconos last month. I took an HDR shot of the scene then converted to B&W using Nik Silver Efx Pro.
Figured it would be fitting for the 1st day of Fall 2010.

Dreaming of the Glades

Michael Pancier Photography posted a photo:

And not of the mosquitoes. Taken on Sunday evening at sunset as I met up with the HDR Queen Fraggle Red and Ivan to try to get some star shots of the Milky Way. Well, it was Labor Day Weekend, which we chose because it was the closest weekend to the New Moon. But the clouds and rain had different plans. Any idea on getting star shots was washed out. But the clouds were great for sunset and dusk shots.

The water at Pine Glades Lake was very still and gave us amazing reflections. Also making the shooting great was a set of Thunderheads in the distance. This is a 3 image HDR which I converted to B&W with Silverfx Pro.
