Wouldn't have got me that near the edge, it was lashing rain and blowing a gale, what a difference from the blue sky of the previous day!

you can see the scale of it with the person up at the top.. apparently they also had structures beyond the stone wall (towards the foreground of this) not far behind me was a sheer drop into the ocean :-)

Dún Dúchatair is an iron age ring fort located on the edge of a high cliff on the southern side of Inis Mór

A little difficult to get to, maps indicate there is a path, but its more a rocky track (wearing inappropriate footwear as usual, my feet were killing me!) the trail soon ends and leads to stone walls and a craggy terrain underfoot, you just head straight ahead before coming across the breath taking view of the cliffs and sea.. The fort is a little further along the coast to the left, more stone walls to navigate before you come across it.. All part of the fun!

Well worth the effort as its a lovely spot.. ancient history, dramatic cliffs and a great view of the Atlantic. On a good day of course.. Wouldn't liked to have been an early settler in a hut during a storm!

Take a walk on the wild side..

An early monastic settlement.. Although it is called Seven Churches, there is actually only one church here.. the rest of the buildings are where the monks lived. The ruins date back to the 8th-11th centuries

Weather wasn't so good after the lovely sun the previous day.. Got soaked to the skin!
