It's Been Such A Long Time

Wow, it has been such a long time since I've been here. What a change. In addition to working on my Master's in Education, my laptop crashed and I lost a load of pics I hadn't backed up yet...a big oops I haven't repeated. I stopped taking pics for a long time. Lisa been encouraging me to get out more with my camera. This is from my archives, taken at my parent's house last June. No photo enhancers here...straight from the camera. I also lost that capability with the crash. To all my friends, I thank you for your continued support, even though I've been absent for so long.

It's been a while, and my, how Flickr has changed...gotta get used to the new stuff. I ended up having a second surgery, and with all the new developments at school, life has been hectic. Sorry, but it was the best I could do after spending Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday getting a large kidney boulder laser-blasted into little pebbles, which prompted Lisa to ask if this now made me a 'rock star'...hahahahahahahah...love it...thanks, dear. I saw this old guy laying around and thought he'd be perfect.

...the leaves, they are a'changin'. My daughter and I had another road trip last weekend...she took me to see the Oakland Raiders beat the Kansas City Chiefs (that would be American Football) in overtime...what a terrific time, even in the rain...that, coupled with last week's San Francisco Giants winning the Word Series, made for a great week.

...this is the last day of Parent-Teacher Conferences, and then a four-day weekend...woohooooooooo...I hope I get to spend some time Flickring.

To those that have continued to comment and support me even though I've not been around, I give you my thanks...I appreciate you all...I hope you all have a terrific weekend. :~}

...my daughter gave me these roses yesterday for Father's Day, but I decided to hold off posting them until my birthday today...yup, its that time of year again...the AP (that would be Assistant Principal) has all the students believing I'm 105, something he started a few years ago when he said I was 102...and they believe him!!!...hahahahahahah.

...we saw this pair of bathtubs on one of our visits to Nelson, NV...what a treasure trove of antiques this place is. I saw the sign below at the Spring's Preserve in Las Vegas...an interesting little tidbit: 25 cents to clean up or cool off...wow...love the water heater for the shower...lol.

...well, we're on our last week of this school year, and time for Parent-Teacher Conferences...I can't wait. Then I'll be doing a stint with a summer school class, with a two-month break afterward...looking forward to it. After all my time teaching year-round, this will be a new experience for me. I don't know what I'm going to do with my time, but I'm sure Lisa will have something for me...hahahahahahahah.

...Lisa and I took a trip to the Shark Reef at the Mandalay Bay Hotel/Casino. There were a number of these lionfish, and this one brought back great memories of my cousin's lionfish, Oscar.

"Pterois is a genus of venomous marine fish found mostly in the Indo-Pacific. Fish of the genus Pterois have a pair of fan-shaped pectoral fins and a spiky first dorsal fin. These fins are thought to resemble a lion's mane, thus giving Pterois the common name of "lionfish". The shape and coloring of its body provide it excellent camouflage.

Pterois has several venomous dorsal spines, which provide an important defense against predator fish. The venom is defensive; the lionfish relies upon its reflexes and camouflage to catch prey, mostly fish and shrimp. [1] For humans, this venom is said to be painful but it is not fatal.[2] The body of most Pterois is dominated by the color maroon, or sometimes brown, with white stripes along the body and fins." ~ Wikipedia

...this was my baby, Chug, a Princess of Wales parakeet...he passed away this morning at 17 years old...lots of great memories, especially when he'd get in my face when I wanted to watch TV or work on my laptop...he wanted all of my attention...he was really great with my students, too.

Last month, my daughter got stood up on a trip to San Francisco, so Dad came to the rescue...we had a father-daughter trip and stayed at my parents...we visited family and friends, my high school alma mater (I'd forgotten what a terrific setting it was), a few of the tourist attractions San Francisco, and Oakland Zoo. This is a Cotton Topped Tamarin, one of many here. I finally got him to look at me, and he doesn't look too pleased...I'm happy the way it turned out, as it was shot through a screen.

...when I left the house this morning at 5, it was 96 degrees...got up to 119 yesterday, and something tells me its going to be another hot one today...I hope all of you are finding some way to stay cool today (I give my thanks to the inventor of air conditioning), and for my friends down under, please send some cooling breezes our way...hahahahah.

...Roadrunner species generally range in size from 18 inches (46 cm) to 24 inches (61 cm) from tail to beak. The roadrunner is a large, slender, black-brown and white streaked ground bird with a distinctive head crest. It has long legs, strong feet, and an oversized dark bill. The tail is broad with white tips on the three outer tail feathers. The bird has a blank patch of skin behind each eye; this patch is shaded blue proximally to red distally. The lesser roadrunner is slightly smaller, not as streaky, and has a smaller bill. The bird is terrestrial; although capable of flight, it spends most of its time on the ground. During flight, the wings are short and rounded and reveal a white crescent in the primary feathers. ...on our way back from our nephew's wedding, we headed down the coast towards San Diego (OK...it was the loooong way home...lololol), and stopped at Crystal Cove State Park to see the tide pools at low tide...on our way back up the cliffs, this roadrunner crossed in front of us, darting about for insects, so these were the best pics I could get...and no, I didn't see any coyotes lurking around the cliffs with rocket skates or a boulder catapult or explosives...hahahahahah.
