I created the design of this piece based on how I felt the Celtic traditions would represent an other-world being like an angel. The seraphim is described in Medieval texts as being a fiery being, "carriers of warmth", and traditionally is represented with wings of flame. My Celtic version uses rich warm colors, but approaches the theme with an emphasis on the natural world. In Celtic myth the otherworld is closer to hand and more tangible, and my design reflects that in representing the wings of a hawk or falcon - a mythical being with a close connection to the beauty and function of nature.

This is an original painting on panel completed in 2003 from my own design. This large wall piece measures 27.5" high by 22" wide and is 3/4" deep.
