hustle and bustle at the IHOP this morning. seemed a reasonable candidate to slide (vibrance and a touch of saturation) for a Sliders Sunday post and it also underscores how little time i've had for shooting. hoping that changes soon. hss!

these two were boisterously taking photos and video with the Canon dSLR at the local McD's. I compulsively, almost reflexively, take photos of people taking photos so in this case I walked up with my iPhone and snapped this. they were quite loud, seemingly oblivious to the diners around them, and, from what I could gather from their video skits, creating something for posting on youtube. I slid the iPhone image I snapped for Sliders Sunday. hss!

this is it folks. work has been so busy that i have not had time to take a single photograph, just one iPhone snap of a groggy morning 7yrold daydreaming and playing with her hair. apply a soft focus filter and call it a cliche. hcs friends and happy weekend (though I'll spend a large part of it working and the rest attending school and family functions - no time for napping on the sofa . . . oh, the humanity).

when I am busy at work (confound it!) and have little time to shoot, I sometimes peer back in my photos and find some shots that I like but never posted. I slid this colorful shot a bit for the Sliders Sunday group. Its a break in the action from the local fair two summers ago. Posting it now for the group and as a note to self to make sure we get to the fair again this year (while the 7yrold - who will be 8 by then - still wants to go with her old man).

and now though still with sadness and concern for those who senselessly lost their lives or their health or had their families cast into turmoil, and with pride in and appreciation for our public servants and our fellow citizens for their care of the wounded and dedication to removing the threat of further harm by the perpetrators, we move on and try to again find the rhythm of daily life, a more or less happy life. and slid some for the Sliders Sunday group. hss

the title is not so much about the photo but about the surreal war-zone like situation happening in our city today. We are at home today because of a police ordered lockdown while one of the mass murder suspects in the Marathon day bombing is being hunted after overnight gun & grenade battles with police that left one officer dead and one grave wounded. We are an evolved, intelligent species?

poking around on my computer while watching the surreal news, I came across a Stranger photo that I took a couple weeks ago . . . I normally do not photograph homeless or street people but I had not seen this particular message on a street sign so after a conversation with this obviously intelligent, articulate gentleman, Michael, he actually insisted that I take the photo.

4/15/2013, I am bumping this to front of my photostream because I think it shows the joy and triumph that the accomplishments of marathon runners, people doing something purposeful, honest, inspiring, should have reveled in today instead of their being struck by senseless carnage, anguish, loss, sorrow. Can we ever enjoy the good in the world without having to be constantly lashed at by the evil?

For Time & Place (10/8/10): I was in the VIP seats (courtesy of a client) at the finish line waiting to photograph my wife completing her first marathon and taking a few warmup or "practice" shots of other runners when I saw this gentleman carrying his young daughter across the line. I looked up his Bib number, then googled him and found a business email address for him and sent him the photo.

best invention ever: the lanyard . . . hang a camera around the 7yrold's neck and she is sure to produce some great photos and some absolutely hilarious, entertaining video [parental bias acknowledged].
