Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

About:
We got another dump of snow two weeks ago and I ended up heading out at 4am to try to get in a few last shots of winter. I've always been intrigued by this spooky old tree in this cemetery but have never taken a picture of it. I decided it's been way overdue so here it is. This is at Holy Cross Cemetery on South Park Street. There have been a few shows and movie scenes shot here too.
I hate to post a winter image in April and I would have posted it earlier but I've been away and just got back.
Took a drive along the Peggy's Cove route to see if I could catch the sunset or at least something in the quickly fading light and I luckily passed this spot. Found this in the archives, it has a little bit of snow in it so I decided to post it.
Winter is almost over for another year and I gotta say; this is the mildest winter we've ever had here. I only had the snowblower out once and that was just to clear the end of the driveway after the plow went by.
As much as I like the fact we've had very little snow, it makes for a boring winter photo-wise.
About:
Found this in the archives, it has a little bit of snow in it so I decided to post it.
Winter is almost over for another year and I gotta say; this is the mildest winter we've ever had here. I only had the snowblower out once and that was just to clear the end of the driveway after the plow went by.
As much as I like the fact we've had very little snow, it makes for a boring winter photo-wise.

Another shot from my outing to the beach a few weeks ago. I shot this just to capture the sky before the sun was totally gone and then I saw one last surfer leaving the water so I waited and hoped to get him in the frame.
Yep, yet another Autumn photo from Darrel's impromptu sunrise shoot a couple weeks ago. We've had so much wind and rain here in the last week that most of the leaves have fallen now so I figure I'd get the last of my (very few) Autumn shots posted before the snow starts to fall.
At least with all this rain we hope to get a few waterfalls shots soon with lots of flow in them. (fingers crossed)

Where:
Somewhere near Kearney Lake?
Halifax
Nova Scotia, Canada

Processing:
This is a two shot Vertorama (over/under panorama). I used Panorama Paul's excellent Vertorama technique to get what I wanted. Hand blended in CS5. I also added a little diffuse glow for a soft look to the leaves.

EXIF data:
Canon 7D : Tokina 10-17mm fisheye : 1/640s @ ƒ/8 : ISO 400

Another shot from Darrel's impromptu sunrise shoot last Saturday. He took us to this hidden away spot near Kearney Lake that I had never been to before. At first I was a little worried that he was going to chop us up and float us down the stream but then I realized that the thing resting on his shoulder wasn't an axe but a tripod. Well with the worries over it was time to finally get a few Autumn colours shots.

Where:

*EDIT*
I just looked at this on a different monitor than the one I have at home and this looks totally different!
The water looks very brown now?!
I guess I need to calibrate my monitor?
Canon 7D : Tokina 10-17mm fisheye : 1/200s @ ƒ/8 : ISO 200 (Bottom half)
I shot the top half at ƒ/22 to get the little starburst on the sun.
Cruising into a storm

Where:
The Look-off
Herring Cove
Nova Scotia, Canada

About:
I got an email Friday night from SPC (The Sackville Photo Club) that stated Darrel was organizing one of his last minute field trips. We were to meet up at the Herring Cove look-off to capture Saturday's sunrise.
Well somehow I managed to actually get my lazy ass in time to meet up with Darrel, Deb, Cheryl, Julie & Lorne.

When I left home the sky looked promising but as I got near the coast I saw some ominous clouds over the water. Hmmm... this could be really good or kinda crappy. If the sun could get in behind those clouds and through an opening it could be amazing. It didn't happen :-(
If you look really close here you can just see the sun trying to get through on the horizon but the cloud cover was just too strong. At least this cruise ship was coming into port to add a little interest.

Processing:
This is a two shot Vertorama (over/under panorama). I used my 24-70mm lens which isn't very wide on the 7D (cropped sensor) and I wanted a square image to capture the boulders and tide pool as well as plenty of that storm cloud. So I used Panorama Paul's excellent Vertorama technique to get what I wanted. Hand blended in CS5, local curves layers to get light in the right places and help open up the shadows.

EXIF data:
Canon 7D : EF24-70mm f/2.8L USM : 1/30s @ ƒ/11 : ISO 200
Pinhead Dingle

What:
Just another shot of my Dingle!

Where:
Northwest Arm
Halifax
Nova Scotia, Canada

About:
This is the first shot of any fall foliage I've taken this year.
Finally most of the leaves have changed here and are starting to fall.
I also wanted to get a shot of the Dingle Tower while it's being fixed up. I think it kinda looks like Pinhead from that movie Hellraiser :-)

Dave the Haligonian posted a photo:

What:
A Lockheed T-33 trainer jet "flies" over the Annapolis Basin.

Where:
Digby
Nova Scotia, Canada

About:
OK, it didn't really fly over the basin:-)
On my way to Digby a couple weeks ago I stopped at the Greenwood Forces base where they have a few old planes on display. This old training jet is at the entrance on a 20 foot pole. There is a symbol on the back the commemorates the 50th year of service of these jets in our air-force. This is our most modern plane! :-)
Anyway, the background is a shot of the entrance to the Annapolis Basin shot from the same spot as the shot below except facing the other way.
I wanted to play around a bit and both shots were rather boring on their own so I thought I'd give this a try.

T-Bird info from Wikipedia:
The Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star is an American-built jet trainer aircraft. It was produced by Lockheed and made its first flight in 1948, piloted by Tony LeVier. The T-33 was developed from the Lockheed P-80/F-80 starting as TP-80C/TF-80C in development, then designated T-33A. It was used by the U.S. Navy initially as TO-2 then TV-2, and after 1962, T-33B. Despite its vintage, the venerable T-33 still remains in service worldwide.

About:
Late in the afternoon I could see that the clouds looked pretty promising for a decent sunset. I decided to try to make it out to Crystal Crescent Beach to see if I could get a sunset shot there. Anyway when I get there I found a locked gate. Shit! I didn't know there was a gate and they closed at 6pm! Anyway I left in hopes of finding another spot. Guess what? I found a couple good spots that I haven't shot before!

The shot:
I got a little wet (as usual) getting this comp but I wanted those rocks in the foreground. The sky was quite nice but as I shot it just kept getting better and better but this was about the peak and it only lasted for a few minutes.

Processing:
I joined the top & bottom frames manually in CS5 to create the vertorama that gave me the square format that I was after.
This is an old railway bridge I spotted in Annapolis Royal on my drive to Digby last weekend. I'm not sure when it was in use until but the tracks have all been removed for what looked like quite a long time.

EXIF data:
Canon 7D : EF-S10-22mm w/3 stop ND filter : 1/250s @ ƒ/8 : ISO 200
