Over 2500 Officers and Soldiers from 7th Brigade have participated in a welcome home parade in Brisbane on 20 November 2010.
The parade was led by Commander 7th Brigade, Brigadier Paul McLachlan and was conducted to conclude their contribution to operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and East Timor in 2010.
7th Brigade units who participated in the parade included Headquarters 7th Brigade, 139th Signals Squadron, 1st Field Regiment, 2nd Combat Engineer Regiment, 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, 8th/9th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment and 7th Combat Services Support Battalion.
2nd/14th Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry) also conducted a concurrent mounted drive past to celebrate their 150th anniversary.
Dignitaries in attendance at the parade included the Deputy Prime Minister the Honourable Wayne Swan, Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Senator David Feeney, Senator for Queensland Senator Russell Trood, Member for Brisbane the Honourable Teresa Gambaro MP, Queensland Attorney-General Cameron Dick, Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman, and Commander Forces Command Major General Dave Morrison.

The Australian flag flies proudly above an Australian Light Armoured Vehicle parked inside an Australian and Afghan patrol base in the Baluchi Valley, Oruzgan Province.

Third year ADFA cadet, Emily Dickson participates in a rockclimbing activity at Point Perpendicular, Jervis Bay on the New South Wales south coast, as part of the exercise Leadership Challenge 3 on 17 May. The exercise prepares cadets to be future leaders of the Australian Defence Force.

The activities included field training, rock climbing, escaping from a simulated helicopter crash into water, controlling the damage on a sinking ship simulator, surviving at sea, and physical training. Australia's Federation Guard member Aircraftwoman Breeannan Williams looks down a line of Turkish soldiers at the commemorative service at Mahmetcik Abidesi that remembered the losses from all nations during the Gallipoli campaign.

Mid-caption: On the eve of Anzac Day 2012, Australian Defence Force personnel from Australia’s Federation Guard today took part in three memorial services that commemorate other aspects of the Gallipoli campaign.

Held at sites across the Gallipoli peninsula, Federation Guard personnel first marched in a service at the Turkish memorial at Mahmetcik Abidesi that remembered the losses from all nations during the Gallipoli campaign.

A commemorative service at the Commonwealth Memorial at Cape Helles to remember Commonwealth loses followed. The final memorial service of the day was held at the 57th Regiment Memorial to remember the annihilation of this now famous Turkish regiment.

Around one dozen members of Australia’s Federation Guard are currently in Turkey as part of a Department of Veterans’ Affairs led Australian Government delegation commemorating the 97th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings on 25 April 1915.

Based in Canberra, Australia's Federation Guard provides a tri-service ceremonial capability that promotes the standards, values, traditions and ethos of Australia and the Australian Defence Force.

AFL Anzac Day game, Collingwood vs Essendon

The modern-day tradition of the ANZAC Day Australian Football League match began in 1995 and has become one of the most popular home and away fixtures in the season. Originally the brain child of Kevin Sheedy, an ex-soldier, it has been played 15 times between traditional rivals Collingwood and Essendon with the results thus far standing at seven wins apiece with one draw.

Australian football has earned a place in the traditions of the Australian Army with soldiers having played famous matches in places like Northern Africa, Vietnam and Iraq. These matches, initiated as a bonding exercise between the soldiers, also became a well remembered celebration of Australian culture.

A special ceremony to honour all those who served their nation in conflict preceded the match including a live cross to Australia’s only serving Victoria Cross recipient, Trooper Mark Donaldson.

Mid caption: Exercise Talisman Sabre 2011 is a combined U.S. and Australian exercise aimed at improving combat training, readiness and interoperability, across the spectrum of military operations from conventional conflict to peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance efforts. The exercise forms part of the Australia Defence Forces’ extensive training program to ensure preparedness or any future deployments and the continued readiness to protect and support Australia and its national interests and to ensure Australian and US military forces can work together efficiently and safely. More than 22,000 Australian and US personnel will participate in Exercise Talisman Sabre 2011, which will see personnel and assets from the Australian and US Navy, Army and Air force as well as the US Marines training in six Defence training areas in Central and Northern Queensland and the Northern Territory, with maritime forces exercising in the Coral, Timor and Arafura Seas.
