The colour of the water sorta reminds me of indoor swimming pools and the weird jets you'd get coming at you.

You might notice my thumb is a bit grubby - a prior balloon had burst whilst filling, covering me in concentrated food die. I've done my best to remove it in post, but that stuff is hard to get off, even digitally!

The third strobe has helped with lighting both sides of the balloon, though I'm not too happy with the darker splash areas off to the side, which I think are a combo of poorly synced backdrop and shadows.

This is from Easter's balloon shoot where I spent most of the time playing with different colours. This was the first time I've had three strobes to play with, though think one is slightly out of sync.

I had planned on taking advantage of this very clement weather by doing a new balloon shoot this evening. Sadly an injury has prevented me from doing so. Still, it seems as good a time as any to post this.

This was one of the first shots from my slightly revised setup using 3 strobes. The previous night's worked ok, but I got bad reflections from the backdrop. For this evening I angled the backdrop away 15º which worked great. Plus this gave a little extra manouvering room, always appreciated.

Possible Lucozade advert anyone?

Have a load of oblong balloons left over (which I've previously avoided), and have been trying to find good angles on them.

They can be formed in to quite pleasing pill shapes, but 50% burst before I've even got to tying them off (and that's bursting in my face). This is one of the ones that did at least make it in front of my lens.

Wishing everyone a lovely Easter break.

This one was both fun and challenging. Required extra attention in dealing with the string and making sure the orientation worked out. From my first balloon shoot in nearly 8 months. Some fun ones coming up!

A similar take as this one. Water sprayed iwth an atomiser on to the surface of the balloon moments before burst.

You can see on this one that the rubber opposite the burst starts to contract inwards leaving the water where it is, whilst the rubber closer moves with enough force to stretch out the water drops.

One of a limited set of experimental tests conducted earlier in the year. The dual-colour water is real, though they were accentuated in post. Will give this concept another go on my next shoot.

One of very few non-water-filled shots I've taken. Balloon sprayed with water from an atomiser seconds before being popped.

The rubber splits far more unpredictably with these, and it all happens even faster - you can see there's much more motion blur in these ones.

Methinks I need to build myself a higher speed flash.

I do find the clear balloons oddly some of the more surreal ones. This hasn't been colourised, though I have deepened the red, which was originally more tomatoey.
